In case you didn't see, DVC is running a sweepstakes on their website that involves a fun little board game. I'm still not 100% sure how it works, but I entered anyway and I play the board game every day and it's enjoyable. So go check it out if you haven't already!

It's a pretty cool game. I like the music in the background. I played for my hubby and myself and out of six games I managed to only win two. I won both on my hubbys name and received 50 points and lost all three on my name and got 43. Weird.
How many yearly points would the winner receive if they were to win?

I think you win as many points as you receive while playing the game. In other words, if the drawing was today and you won, you'd get 43 points. That's the incentive to keep coming back and playing, I guess.

I don't have any confirmation of that, it's just the conclusion I drew. :)

Edited to add: I just checked the official rules. You can play once a day between Nov. 1 and Jan 31, each time you play gets you one entry into the sweepstakes and you win as many points as you accumulate. If you achieve less than 160 points while playing, you are automatically entered to win 160 points with however many entries you have (i.e., if you played six times and had 112 points, you'd get 6 chances to win 160 points). The maxmimum number of points you can achieve, and therefore the maximum prize, is 500 vacation points and the maximum number of entries you can have is ten.

Good luck to all of us ;) and even if we don't win more points, it's a fun little break in the day!

Be aware it is a "3 year sample membership"

I have not read the rules more closely and I do not know if it could be added onto an existing membership or not.

Looking at it now, it appears to be a seperate, stand alone, contract for 3 years at the Villas at AKL.

It is also limited in the sense that the contract does not give member discounts, early booking for the member cruise, and a number of other things. It does appear that borrowing and banking is allowed.

I gues you could use the contract you already own and the one you win at the same time. You would just have different reservations if using points from both.

What if you aren't a member at all? If I were to win, would I be able to just win 3 free years with no obligation to purchase anything?

Thats what it looks like. You get a "free" three year contract with limited membership perks. If you read the rules they say things like "points in the first year can be used up to 2 years from the date of inception, and points in the last year can be used up to 364 days past the last day of the contract" Whit it seems to boil down to is, "normal banking and borrowing rules apply"

It makes sense, because a three year "trial" contract would enable the winner to see how banking and borrowing can work. If they won the 500 point contract, they would be able to take a 1500 point trip in the middle of the contract.

You read the rules more closely than I did!! ;)

And now it makes much more sense why you have to play the savannah as one of your three games.

The other big part is that the prize includes cash to cover maintenance fees and (estimated) taxes you'd have to pay. (It also includes $95 in case you want to use some of the points out of DVC for an RCI exchange)
So as long as the cash prize (which varies according to how many points you win in the game) covers your tax liability, it truly is three years free-and-clear.

I seem to recall the three DVC memberships (which were full-blown memberships, not shortened 3-year ones) that they gave away during the Year of a Million Dreams contest also included those cash prizes.

Pity there will only be one winner this time around.
