This all brings up one of my long-held observations / opinions. A big aspect of "charm" for the old Wild Rivers (and Camp James) was the re-use of old Lion Country buildings and elements. Perhaps I'll go into that in more detail later.

Another thing that set Wild Rivers apart from Soak City, and other "flat" parks was their little hill, complete with fake hill topper. This allowed for some unique slides and just a kind of cool atmosphere (instead of all towers, stairs, fiberglass slides/tubes). I was hoping they would try to recreate something like that, but the art doesn't really indicate that. Interestingly, the hill they show in the background looks a lot like the berm they built for the temporary Five Points Amphitheater, but the map showing the location adjacent to Skyhawk makes me think this new park will stay farther to the north/west. Regardless, I wish they would incorporate some slides into whatever that shown hill is.

One last glimpse of hope: "But Riedel won’t stray too much from tradition – he’ll recreate the Bombay Blasters slide and is working on a new Congo River Rapids ride."

So many childhood memories. I went to Camp James for several years. I remember getting stuck on Chaos and panicking. This was fresh after the accident on the Liquidator when the kid broke his jaw... I even road the Liquidator a few times, that thing was traumatizing.

The original had a special charm that couldn’t be duplicated. Most slides seemed like they were made in house, and like they would never pass today’s safety standards. Hearing they’re planning on bringing back Bombay Blaster is hugely exciting. I can see it on the map... the short yellow and red slides on the left most slide tower. I don’t think they’ll be able to build something like Congo river rapids again, that ride was special. I would love to see a long dark slide like Abyss, that was always one of my favorites.

Wow there’s no buildings in sight

That’s something I really liked about Disneys take on water parks. Maybe this one can add a little more hopeless pressure on DLR
