George The Ghost At POTC

Has anyone seen/heard/experienced anything related to the ghost, George, that supposedly haunts POTC? The legend is that George was a construction worker that was working on POTC when it was being built, and fell to his death. CMs that work on the ride will always greet George as they arrive and leave. It is also said that, if you are on the ride, and say something negative to/about George, the ride will stop. CMs and guests have reportedly seen ghostly apparitions, footsteps when no one is there, phone calls to the control room with no one on the other end of the line. I did not hear about this until after our last WDW trip, but I definitely plan on saying something to George next time I ride I love these kinds of urban legends-is it true? Who knows...

If you really go down the rabbit hole on this you'll find a whole bunch of George stories and urban legends. There's one where he committed suicide while in the attraction building and the more common tale that he fell from the tower in the burning scene and died as a result of his injuries.

Cast did used to greet George in the morning and say goodnight every night out of fear that if they didn't, the ride would malfunction at some point during the day or the next. The also did call the tower in the burning scene, George's tower. As far as I can tell, that story may be true. George was a painter who fell to his death while working on the attraction. However, I doubt anyone will substantiate that claim. It may be true, it may not. It's a macabre rumor that people seem to love. Similar legends have sprung up about the Haunted Mansion as well.

All I can say is that, true or not, it's an interesting story. If you do delve into what's available (just google it), just take it all with a truckload of salt.

Ghost stories intrigue me, yet scare the heck out of me. I first read about George in a hidden secrets of WDW book and now every time we ride POTC I get a little creeped out thinking of it. Definitely interesting none the less.

Is there any way to confirm his employment or report of an incident?

LOL do you watch "haunted" i think that is what is called on discover america? I love that show but many of the stories are just that stories. But, I do beleive there are beings around us haha. One has yet to explain how a cup on my table magically fell on the floor and i was the only one home.

From what I heard there are no records of anyone called George getting killed or injured in the attraction during construction, it's just a made up bit of fun which caught on.

With all of the social media that we have in 2016 Disney still does an incredible job of damage control.

I can't imagine the silencing that went on during 1972/73 construction of Pirates if something did occur. Who knows?

Isn't the Joe Potter ferry supposedly haunted as well? That incident is well documented.

You really had to go there. Can you please keep it to the topic. On a personal note, I heard that Geogre the ghost isn't the only ghost in WDW. I heard there is one on Space Mountain.
