He came WDW to announce a new attraction for MGM that involves a teaming of Stitch and Jar-Jar. I believe it will be called Annoying Alien Encounter.

That, my friends, is the quote of the day

Hehehe..... Star Tours does need to be updated but I can no longer annoy people then....

Last time I was at Disneyworld, it was for the band trip for Magic Music Days. And well, I had a large group of people following me because I know the parks so well. Well, I took them all on Star Tours, and a lot of them were pretty mad because of that. Especially since I ditched them afterwards to watch the stunt show construction.

But anyway, I would love to see the ride redone with a large 3D TFT screen instead of a standard projector screen. It can be done now, but it would be hella expensive...

And a side note since there was no Paris Hilton topic. Don't ride Big Thunder Mountain or you will get an STD. That is all...

Actually, if Disney converts to an LCD or DLP projector, the upgrade wouldn't be prohibitively expensive at all! I'm surprised Disney hasn't done this yet, especially since a DLP projector costs far less to operate than a traditional one (Disney would have to replace a bulb about once a month).

Regarding a large TFT screen: it would be too small. The largest flat LCD screen right now is merely 60"; and even if Disney could pull it off, the screen would be on so long that some of the pixels would eventually go out, leaving white spots on the screen. And you think the film looks slightly grainy now...

I see a lot of discussion about hopes for a new film in Star Tours. Do you really think thats enough though? To me, the ride system of Star Tours, regardless of the content of the film, is now playing second fiddle to the Mission Space ride system. Mission Space has set the standard in themepark simulations, and anything less is going to seem a poor comparison to me.

I would much rather see Disney abandon Star Tours, and instead develop a whole new Star Wars based attraction. Perhaps using EMV, or some whole new technology. Afterall, Indy drove the creation of the EMV, so why not use another movie legend, Star Wars, as the basis of WDIs next major new ride system.

A Star Wars EMV!?!? Whoa, that would just be AMAZING! OR, something along the lines of Spiderman from Unviersal (eeeeek). It would be a total immersion into the Star Wars universe.

I wonder tho, these days - are Indy and Star Wars nearly as popular as they were when those attractions were created? Would a Lord of the Rings attraction be a bigger draw?

As far as popularity I would have to say yes in the case of Star Wars and no for Indy. Indy 4 (if it ever gets made) might very well change that.A LOTR dark ride would be great but Disney doesn’t have the rights to it as far as I know.

I just mentioned LOTR off the top of my head, though I really wonder if any of 'todays' films could take the place of Indy or Star Wars. Not to bring up Universal again, but how much staying power does Men in Black have? Sheesh, even Back to the Future (though one of my all time favorites) has gotta be straining to keep up.

You would think HISTA might be having this 'dated' problem as well, but as a film attraction, it seems to be able to hold up on it's own, regardless of it's motion picture counterparts.

The quality of the attraction is helping Men in Black's staying power. The franchise might not last forever, but I don't think many care because the attraction itself is so well done.

Back to the Future is having some problems though...

Let me ask the $64,000 question: Does ST have a problem with attendance?

Space Mountain is dated beyond belief but still packs 'em in. The only way Disney is going to spend the green to put a new attraction in, particularly if it is cutting edge like CTX, sorry Dinosaur and MS is if they can find a need for it. If the attendence is there, and the gift shop is making money you'll only see cosmetic changes.

Personally, I like ST, it may be old and clunky but it is done very well and has a nice theme. If anything Disney should consider adding another SW based attraction to that area to compliment ST, maybe along the lines of the CTX or MS type ride system, or even something new!.

StarWars.com is using that image of Lucas and Mickey for their caption contest this week. My submission:

"Mickey, join me and together we can destroy Eisner and put an end to this destructive conflict..."
