I have a bunch of questions about trip planning. This is the first trip that I am planning to Disney.

Where do I order magic bands?should I do this before or after the hotel reservations?

You do it after you make the hotel reservations, but you only get them if you're staying on property.

Will you be staying at a Disney resort?

Yes, but I'm purchasing tickets separately. I get a discount from my work and won't be purchasing them with the hotel...does that matter?

Nope. You get them with any room reservation

Yes, you choose your colors before your trip and they mail them to you in a box.
The Disney store sells character ones (I'm too cheap to buy them)lol.
But if you have young kids you can also purchase band "bling". I forget what they're actually called but they pop into the bands, characters and such. We got a pack of Stitch ones last time.

How soon do they send them to you? Also, how soon can you start using MDE?

The bands get mailed 30 days before your trip. I think you can use MDE as soon as you make a reservation.

I believe you pick the colors you want as soon as you book your reservation and you can link the reservation to MDE as soon as you have the confirmation number.

There is also a trip report section here on the forums. You can document everything from pre-trip to during and post-trip.
