Hi there Everybody,

I apologize if you feel this post is in the wrong place but I think this DIRECTLY impacts Disney so I thought I would post it here.

Everyone on this list MUST take a ride right outside the Walt Disney World gates on Osceola Parkway and check out the brand new Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center.....This place is absolutely incredible. Its a new hotel which opened on February 2, 2002. and it accomodates in the neighborhood about 1700 conventioners. This place booked more then 1 MILLION room nights before it even opened!! Its the Everglades, St. Augustine, Key West, and Emerald Bay all rolled into one under this HUGE glass Dome....There is more convention space here then I have ever seen in Florida including the Convention Center in town...and its RIGHT OUTSIDE Disney...A big boost to everybody I am sure...

This place mostly caters to convention attendees, but in case you were a leisure Guest and wanted to spend a couple nights? Rooms go from $500 a night for a guest room....to $2900 a night for the nicest suite...

Its free to go in and look around of course..lots of shopping and a true marvel...BIG TIME BUCKS...It actually makes the Grand Floridian look like a motel :)

www.gaylordpalms.com is their website...

Best Regards,

WDWGuy

P.S. The price tag to build this hotel?? 450 MILLION

Hi-
I think this is the opryland hotel - there are some better rates tthan $500/night - you can get a honeymoon package with breakfast in bed and other free meals from $279 a night, for example.

You are right about the Gaylord Palms. We were just in WDW in January, and on one of our grocery store runs, we passed it. When it was being built, it was being advertised as the Opryland Hotel, so I'm not sure what happened there! A little "cash flow" problem I guess. Anyhow, it is HUGE!!!! And looked very nice! We did not go in, but I would probably be interested in nosing around next time we are down. It sounds like the price is a little steep though.

Gaylord Opryland

It is the same hotel. Gaylord is the company that owns the Grand Ole Opry, WSM Radio (the "original" country station that sort started it all in country music) and Opryland Hotel in Nashville. They started the Nashville Network and ran it until it was sold a couple years ago to MTV (Viacaom). They did market research that showed that the name "Opryland" would not have enough name recognition in Florida. So, they decided to change the name of their new hotel to the Gaylord Palms Hotel, and along the way changed the name of their original Nashville hotel to Gaylord Opryland. They also have one opening in Texas, but since the Opryland name tested well there, it will be called, "Gaylord Opryland Texas."

The company is focusing now more on its hotels and is expanding from its country roots.

You can find more info on their hotels, and listen to their station WSM (AM 650, which broadcasts from the Gaylord Opryland Hotel Nashville) on the radio station's website, www.wsmonline.com, or at the hotel division website, www.oprylandhotels.com .
