It's usually someone's name used cleverly (e.g. a business name or their name on a tombstone). A portrait of Phil is just a whole different level...
Exactly.

Better than the ridiculous painting of Lord Holmes.
Not sure if this always happens for these higher ups, but for some reason it kind of makes me mad that they did this. With the state of the parks and lack of anything major happening, there might be bigger things to think about. I feel like either some "brown noser" thought this would be a good idea to get some brownie points, or Iger and Staggs actually thought this would be cute and they could put their mark on this area.
You don't see them putting their name all over stuff that is broken or that they let fall into disrepair.
Eisner and Walker don't have this sort of thing, do they?
A nice tribute! Wells died of an accident during his time at Disney, so that is a good cause for a little tribute. There's a Wells tribute in the Matterhorn at DL. There's a crate that looks like it belongs to a mountain climber with the words "Wells Expedition" on it.

Another fun thing I noted was the Trois Blondes...the "three blonds".
Reference to these girls, I suspect.
