That was fabulous. I cant wait to see more of these at Disney. I cant believe the broad range of facial expressions that are available, this will bring so much realism to the attractions. Just imagine this being used in HM. WOW.

I would see this sort of capability of being of more obvious use in long-format animatronic shows like The American Adventure or Carousel of Progress. The traditional school of thought for animatronic rides like Pirates, Mansion, or even the Great Movie Ride, is that each time a rider views an animatronic tableux it's only conveying one beat of a "scene"; the auctioneer is always jubilant, the caretaker is always afraid, and the Wicked Witch of the West is always incensed. This is partially for simplicity's sake, but also because the nature of omnimover rides requires that the beginning of a looping scene convey essentially the same information to the viewer as the end of it. An animatronic that can dynamically alter its facial expression is of limited use in an application where the a window of presentation of that figure provides no opportunity for context for that emotional change. A long-format show, on the other hand, or at least an attraction with multiple stops and starts, might be just the opportunity to put something like this to use.

The MAPO division of WDI was shut down in July 2012, that was Disney's own internal robotics group. I don't know the extent that Disney still maintains their existing AAs, or if GH now does it all. WDI still seems to have some involvement in newer and more cutting edge figures such as the Shaman however.

GH actually seems to build pretty good or even great animatronics. But when shown off at conventions or other non Disney parks, they have a certain inhuman jerky nature outside of their work with Disney. What gives Disney's the more fluid motion is a tech called compliance, which I think Disney owns the patent to. I think it can be applied to GH robots (in fact there probably are some that use it), but only Disney robots are allowed to legally use the tech. So Universal, Knotts Berry Farm, etc animatronics will all have somewhat less realistic motion even when they are the same manufacturer.
The only other company comparable to Disney in this regard is Creature Technology. Their AAs are incredibly lifelike. They made the Walking with Dinosaurs arena show and the new King Kong AA.
Can you imagine the Star Wars AAs in the park and hotel? Dang. Starworld, Westworld, Disneyworld!
The facial expressions on all those Storm Troopers will be out of this world!!!

Garner Holt built his entire career on taking plans from Disney and building his figures. when he was young He would sneak behind the scenes and take photographs of the maintenance manuals and then use those to contract out to have figures built and then pass them off to Disney as his own. he might be the youngest purveyor of corporate espionage in the history of Disney. whats sad was how dumb Disney was to not even realize it ! The reason I know is because I was with him when he was doing it!

You’ve lived with this secret for generations, and only now resurrect a seven-year-old thread to confess?

If this is true then this is the biggest story to come out of this forum in years... And likely the most damaging in a few. But none of us have any reason to believe you.

If true, they’d be better of presenting their evidence to the media or Disney directly, and not posting on this forum.
