After years of failed efforts to land some sort of tourist attraction, the Garden Grove City Council has agreed to let an investment firm move forward with plans to construct a $4-billion amusement park in a city best known for its annual strawberry festival.

The park, which would include three resort-style hotels, would be built on a 150-acre site on Harbor Boulevard, three miles down the road from Disneyland.

The plan's backers also told the council that they wanted to invest an additional $4 billion to build a nearby retail and entertainment complex.

Greg Blodgett, an economic development manager for Garden Grove, said the city is encouraging TL Properties to build a "next-generation park" that would complement Disneyland.

"We're looking at something along the lines of Islands of Adventure, Universal's second park in Orlando," Blodgett said.

HELL YEAH!!! I always will believe that if Disney had built an Islands of Adventure on Disneyland's old parking lot that it would have been an incredible success. I really can't wait to see what becomes of this project. It sounds like these guys might actually have a good game plan.

I dunno - I think they should spend some time talking to the folks at Cedar Faire in OH who own Knott's. And Six Flags demographic isn't entirely attractive - the money isn't it teens, it's in well-heeled adults. $4B is an awfully big investment to try and recoup. All in the shadow of the mouse?

Even Universal FL is struggling...

i am surprised disney doesn't try to bid for the properity. If the plan is to develope the properity as an entertainmet attraction, if I was Disney I would want to develope it. Why let another company come in a take guests away from their properity. If disney builds something their, the guest will still leave the Disneyland properity, but at least they are going to another properity of Disney if they were to develope it.

Well guys this might be good for Disney fans a consumers.Competition means better things for you and me and CMS.If DL feels they will loose their people to the other guys they will have to find ways to keep the turnover down by raising salaries and benefits. Also to be competitive they will have to keep us going to DL over the other guy by keeping the park super clean, more attractions and better pricing.Overall I say let the other guys come in and help keep Dl on its toes more.
