Galaxy's Edge opening crowds versus Potters opening crowds

Any similarities or will the Star Wars ones be bigger? I remember Diagon Alley's opening and they had people queuing up at 3am to get in. I believe they actually let people in the park hours before official opening and had them line up behind either The Simpsons or M.I.B. in backstage areas and gave out free water. Gringotts had waits of 5 hours+ and this went on for a few days.

Will Galaxy's Edge be similar? We arrive off property 2 weeks after official opening day and as from the UK the time difference means getting up at 3am isn't a problem for us the first few days. Anyone know the earliest the parking lot opens and if there's any chance Disney will do like Universal and let people in before opening and have the queue elsewhere?

There should be an advance booking access control system in place for entry to the land. Basically an electronic capacity management system.

Thanks Martin. Any idea what time they'll open the parking lot or any plans on opening the Studios earlier than normal?

I thought the press releases talked about reservations not being required for Hollywood Studios unlike DL where they were required.
Are you talking about something else?

I don’t I’m afraid.

I didn’t see the press releases so can’t really say.

Are you saying this is what’s planned or is this your proposed solution to the problem?

For DL this is what they’re doing. For DHS they’ve said there are no such plans.

My concern is still how they get people out of the land once they’re in. At first (ie: with only one ride open) they could stop people getting back in line for a ride, but they couldn’t really do that with both rides open. But either way, people will stick around in GE for hours, the question is how many?

From the press release:
Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneyland.com and the Disney Parks Blog. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.
A reservation will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Walt Disney World Resort at this time. And you should know that valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is required to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge after its opening on August 29, 2019. Capacity is limited. Additionally, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be available during Extra Magic Hours. During Extra Magic Hours guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can spend extra time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios enjoying select attractions. Details will also be available at a later date on Disneyworld.com and the Disney Parks Blog.

AFAIK it’s being considered for Orlando. To be honest, I think they’d be daft not to.

I agree. The press release does leave it open that they may require them in the future. Probably depends on how things go in DL.

I made reservations for Labor Day weekend after the announcement. I will find out first hand.

Can anyone confirm what time the parking lot will open after GE does? When TSL opened what time did the parking lot start letting people in?

I'm gonna miss the DHS opening by 5 days and I'm glad. I rather wait until 6 months later on our 2020 return trip for SWGE, after crowd control kinks have been worked out.
I was there for the opening of Hogsmede years ago and Universal was doing a fastpass like access of sign up and times you could come back and get in. The problem with that is the place was jam packed and people won't leave on their own. They got their time and since they know they can't get back in even to just look around so we'll stay all day. People no longer self regulated how badly they wanted to stay in Hogsmede coming over and going away if it was just too busy or leaving saying we'll come back later to just look around. I hope the electronic version of crowd control for SWGE allows them to have a more accurate count of how many people are actually in the SWGE area but the SWGE in DLR is just gonna be a mess of people for a while with no relief until DHS version gets going.

This is very selfish, but a little part of me is hoping the opening day will be a crowding diaster solely because I won't be there and can watch from afar with detached amusement. I can't be the only one feeling this way

I seriously loving opening day vlogs on YT (never been to an opening day event of anything...in WDW). The sheer excitement coming from opening day is electric (kinda like midnight premieres of movies like Star Wars or Avengers). Their is also a part of me that just loves to see how packed it can get on Day 1.
