What Bob rode is part of the actual ride, not just a mock-up or simulation plussed just for him. I wasn't bothered as much as I wanted to note that we will get to ride what he rode. His reaction to the attraction was real, which testifies to the effect of the new attraction.
It sounds like you are saying you know what the ride system is. So what exactly did he ride? Was he being literal when he talked about climbing on a banshee?

Very curious about this also. If the description of riding a banshee is literal instead of some effect implied by the ride then that is a game changer to me in terms of what to expect from this ride. It still don't see how that is possible after seeing the base model of what this simulator ride looks like. There have been several photos of what this ride will look like that people like @Tom and others have posted on this site. I don't see how it would be possible due to the size of the theaters and the size of banshees (as depicted in the movie) and the number of guests WDW would want in terms of throughput per hour. I always saw this as a big people eater type ride.

And believe me, I WANT to believe that what you are saying is true. I am one of the biggest DAK Pandora fans on this site. Even if the simulator they are building does not have banshees to climb into, I think that this ride will be highly enjoyable and more of a rush when compared to Soarin'. And there is also the boat ride and the interactive elements of the Pandora forest to look forward to.

I am just a DAK fan desperate for any Pandora news aside from the occasional overhead shots.:D

Do you believe he rode the full fledged thing?

My personal assumption is that the ride Iger rode was still an early stage moc up.

Yeah, I think a realistic best case scenario is they have a model of a Banshee -- perhaps clearly with a Na'vi riding on top -- which carries a gondola where the guests sit. This would allow multiple people to be "riding" each banshee, so you can have a decent number of guests per screen assuming there are a few banshees in each room.

It's a bit late in the game for early stage mockups considering the ride is being built-that implies most everything has been figured out. What he rode is much more likely to be very close to the finished product except perhaps cosmetic things and presumably the animation isn't done yet.

Cool!
That piques my curiosity more then.
I've got virtually zero interest in the movie (though coincidentally it was on tv the other night and I watched perhaps the last 1/3 of it) but I'm pretty psyched about the ride.
In fact it makes better ride material than movie material if you ask me.
There is the potential to do some pretty great things with this, even more so with JC having involvement.
I'd imagine there will be some 4th dimensional elements as well.
Scents, water etc...

I don't doubt that he rode a prototype of the ride and it very well could closely resemble the finished product. I would hope that at this stage they have all of the logistics worked out since the steel is going in the ground. It would be hard to make major changes once full verticle construction starts. We were all assuming based on the older leaked plans that the ride will use 4 theaters with rather large screens. The film may or may not be finished yet. I'm assuming based on these things that the version Iger rode was locked away in a WDI building in CA since the construction site at AK isn't far enough along for a prototype.

i think the most ideal ride vehicle for this would be vekoma Pandora's box.

oh ive seen this yea wdi is definitley going to do alot of customizing on this. i know thats the vekoma flight simulator. since joe rohde himself has said we will fly on the wings of a mountain banshee i will take that literally. i want to believe the ride vehicle will be more like thisView attachment 77599

That is Vekoma's Pandora's box system. It has been discussed here before and there were some reasons why people believed that it wouldn't use that system. Can't remember why they thought this, but one reason I can think of is it was be a very low capacity compared to the other ride system shown above.

Any chance that the early leaked plans aren't what actually what is being built? Maybe I missed something covering that earlier, but would that be logical?

I have asked that before, especially since the leaked plans date from a period before all sides agreed and everything started moving forward. However, the space on the aerial views corresponds perfectly with the four theater setup from the leaked plans and seems to have the boat ride show building ride next to it as in the leaked plans -- it seems likely that the plans are more or less what we are getting.

Could be. They were leaked a long time ago. I think in the Thread with Avatar overhead photos some people tried to match up the concrete footings pored to the original leaked plans and it seemed to match up.
