future world of pandora announcements

Hey people, I'm new to this forum. I know last year for the D23 expo in Tokyo disney gave us some concept art and a video of James Cameron and Joe Rohde talking about the world of pandora. Does anyone think we will get more in depth looks of the pandora land at D23 2015 or will they hold out on us until later on? I have high hopes that they will give us more details on the mountain banshee flight simulator. What do you all think?

It's possible that they give us a little more. Since executives are now claiming to have "ridden" the ride it's quite possible they could even give us a glimpse of a ride video or a look at the ride vehicles. Since the land doesn't open until 2017 they may be hesitant to show too much of the final look of the land. I think that will be saved until closer to opening.

I am hoping for a more formal description of the DHS project as well. I think they could throw out some details on Star Wars Land (both DL and WDW). There is a lot of meat they could share this year...or they could give us next to nothing. Remember last year they waited until the event in Japan to release the Avatar concept art.

I'm expecting major park announcements and details are purposefully being held off until d23 ESPECIALLY because there were none at the last one.

Yeah, if there is not some real major expansion news at D23, people will figuratively riot and probably kill off the D23 Expos. There has already been major grumblings that the Expos are not worth it to attend.

For WDW, I would think we will see some DHS expansion plans (for the Pixar portion) and some details about Pandora. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some info on the Frozen ride for Epcot. For DLR, I would guess the main focus would be on whatever is going into Hollywoodland at DCA -- I ca't keep track if it will just be a Frozen area or if Monsters Inc is still on the table.

What I do not expect is any information beyond teasing relating to Star Wars. I think details for that would be at Star Wars Celebration or somehow tied to the release of Ep VII. I think Disney wants any Star Wars stuff to have its own stage in terms of promotion.

Just curious as to what the quotes mean.
This was a quote from a Variety article:

Bob Iger said he was recently given the chance to try out the ride, which will enable guests to fly through “Avatar’s” Pandora on the back of a flying banshee.

“It felt so real, so lifelike,” Iger said of the prototype vehicle guests will board to travel through the fictional land. “There’s never been anything like it.”

The vessels that guests will ride upon will essentially be the banshees themselves, with bodies that move to mimic a breathing beast. The flying sequences will be brought to life through large video screens — similar to “Soarin'” — with vehicles moving with the 3D action inside a massive theater.
While I'm sure Iger is referring to the prototype of the ride the actual theaters at AK aren't built yet so he hasn't actually ridden the real ride. There also still seems to be some debate about whether the ride vehicle will actually be something like an AA banshee or if that's more of a figurative description of the how the ride will feel.

Based on this quote it stands to reason that a working prototype exists somewhere at WDI so if they wanted to give us a glimpse of what the ride vehicle will look like or what the film will be like they could do it at D23. At some point during Mine Train construction they released a video that combined actual ride footage and a computer simulation. That's a possibility too, but there probably won't be much to show from the actual job site. They could also just stick with more concept art too and give us some more specifics on what the ride will be like. I'm also curious to see if there is any reference made to the boat ride. It seems there are conflicting rumors about whether it will open with the rest of the land or be delayed.

Yea some less vague concept art would be great. I know we are getting a lot of aerial construction shots too which is awesome. It would be such a cop out of they didn't give us some new tidbits at D23 this year.

??? Isn't D23 a yearly event? The land won't open til 2017 so shouldn't they have 2 more D23's between now and then?

Nope
Every other year
That's a good point. They won't have another shot at this type of event. The only reason I think they may hold back on showing too many details for the full land is they will want to spend some serious time featuring this project before it opens and next summer may be too far away.

Does anyone have a scoop on if there will be any restaurants or night time shows in pandora. I know it's going to look cool at night time but I'm sure they wouldn't make something that interferes with the AK night time parade and show

I know that there was a mention of new nighttime entertainment coming to DAK along with Pandora, night safaris and the Rivers of Light nighttime show. I don't recall there being any mention specific to a parade. Has anything new been mentioned about this? I remember the rather cryptic concept art depicting performers on stilts and people on instruments with the Tree of Life lit up in the background. I am wondering now what else will be going on at night in DAK. They did just open up that large paved area that looks like it is built for a large mass of people. Anyone hear anything else about this part of the new nighttime entertainment coming to DAK?

I m thinking the nighttime street performers will be separate from the ROL

I would think so too. If I am not mistaken, the "cleared out area" is in front of the TOL so it wouldn't make much sense to have a show there simultaneous with ROL since people would not be able to see both -- I'm expected the performances to be earlier in the evening with ROL to follow; that leaves that area clear for people leaving the park after ROL ends.

Also, I do really hope they add some bigger daytime performance. Even if a parade is not possible, a daytime show on the water (which can make multiple use of the viewing area for ROL) would be cool.

In terms of Pandora, it would be interesting to see what kind of entertainment they do there. I'd love to see some "native" Na'vi performance of music or something.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was wondering why you put "ridden" in quotes.
Sorry I tried to answer the question here:
While I'm sure Iger is referring to the prototype of the ride the actual theaters at AK aren't built yet so he hasn't actually ridden the real ride.
Not sure what else I can say. I didn't think putting the word ridden in quotes was a big deal. It really has little bearing on my original point but helps to avoid the snarky comments about how he couldn't have ridden a ride that won't be open for 2+ years. Just curious, but why does it bother you?

yea navi live performances would be cool to have. so far we only know there will be 2 rides, a gift shop, restuarant and interactive elements throughout the section. i'm sure they are saving some space for a third ride that would sort of coincide with avatar 2 which is set for a december 2016 release. since cameron himself has gone on record to say the second movie will explore pandora's ocean, i wouldnt be surprised if they brought back a 20,000 leagues under the sea type ride for pandora which would involve the planet's aquatic life. i dont see wdi doing anything less than stellar for this land. its all or nothing. no carousels or dinoramas here lol not that i have a problem with those rides.
