With the new attractions coming in, Discovery Land (or World of Discovery or Discovery World - Thanks, FREAK!) suites the currect tone of Epcot better than Future World. You discover what's it's like for a car on the testing ground in TT, you discover the life of aquatic animals at the Livings Seas, soon you will discover what it's like to be an astronaut in M:S, etc...the only thing truly futuristic about Future World is Innoventions. I love Epcot. It is my favorite park but I do agree that change is good. Even though I don't like that they will change Spaceship Earth, I won't impede the progress Disney is making to enhance it.

Too funny Dizeydude87:lol:

Either way. I am ok. I love the old and I am sure I will love the new as long as they don't lose that Disney magic.:king:

Project Gemini

Well, I have to admit that I fell in the minority when it came to EPCOT...ever since I was young EPCOT was my favorite park, Magic Kingdom never appealed to me. I think there are more children under the age of 18 out there that love EPCOT, than people think. Disney however has abandoned EPCOT for some time now, and with Mission Space on the horizon, they need to be thinking of better things for this park. To attract even more people.
Project Gemini would help alot! But I think they have it all wrong. All they have to do is place two rides, one on innoventions east the other on innoventions west (no major changes to those buildings). Forget Soarin (I don't know about other guests but I'm sick of the clones :hammer: ) they should come up with something innovative, like spiderman was for Universal's IOA. A coaster is a good idea, and I like Time Racers, but WDI shouldn't forget that the original idea Walt had was to create a place that the FAMILY could enjoy together, so you would have to balance the thrill rides with other attractions. The hedge maze idea is ridiculous and out of place, the whole "discoveryland" name is out of place too.
About "the house of the future" attraction...maybe they should put a modern version of Carousel of Progress. And that whole notion of trees everywhere thats a ridiculous way of spending more money than you need to (more trees would mean making EPCOT look like Animal Kingdom...whats the point of that!)
While I still continue to love EPCOT over the years, Project Gemini would improve it, but again I think its important not to get carried away with too many thrill rides, there has to be a nice balance. Just some thoughts.

I voted do it, but I don't think it should all be done. Not to thrilled with the Coaster ideas (except maybe Time Racers, if it's well done) or The closure of Wonders of Life, but most of the rest of it sounds good, especially the new garden-type theming. It could be very beautiful if done right. Now if it's a realistic plan.... that's a whole other story.

Personally, I like the idea. As much as I like Spaceship Earth, Time Racers sounds even better. The rest of the additions and upgrades would certainly add to the park, IMO. And, my mid-90's EPCOT Discovery license would become a collectors item. It's the first EPCOT license plate I ever picked up and also one of the most boring. Now it would be retro and cool.

It is finally nice to see some changes to Future World. I have been there several times in the recent past and have found the area and the park as a whole lacking somewhat. It is also nice to see that others support this idea as well.

u no what i go to disney every single year. i also go to Universal studios.. what i noticed is that epcot hasnt done anything to the park until recentyl Mission Space.. i am 14 and personally i like epcot the way it is.. its not supposed to be a thrill park.. its supposed to be EPCOT(experimental prototype community of tomorrow) i highly doubt that people in a 100 years will be living in a jungle with millions of trees.. i like the whole future thing and are they trying to turn epcot into a huge SAVE THE EARTH campaing cuz i just dont like it... what would walt want is what they should be asking.. not what a bunch of teens that dont like it want.. because i know ALOT of teens who love EPCOT.. they are trying to turn it into ANimal Kingdom(my fav) but u c thats the thing.. they alreayd have an animal and "tree" park.. also um making a thrill ride inside the Epcot ball doesnt make sense to me and woo hoo a rollercoaster in trees... wow.... i can do that at Busch Gardens.. if you want thrill rides go to Universal.. thats why i like to go to both.. i love thrill rides and i love theme rides.. u c disney is a theme park and i really dont understand spending millions of dollars to add trees and destroy everything when all they have to do is add a ride or too and they r fine.. that would cost them alot less and make alot of people happy.. just wait until they are going to make another theme park and make "discoveryland" there:fork:

OK...if we're going to thin of this using some Jeremy Bentham ideals involving pain and pleasure (Principles of Unity clauses), I think I can argue this point.

When calculating the pain of the removal such as a classic attraction (such as Horizons)...it is more in value than the PLEASURE of those who want to visit the park for the purpose of a thrill ride. Sometimes, if a greater thrill ride is built somewhere else, another can be easily produced.

I haven't posted much on here, but I have been reading the boards for a long time, and thought this whole subject is worth commenting on.

It seems as though with the exception of a few people, most people around here are looking for Epcot to be sacrificed for more 'thrills'. At times I find Epcot boring too, but I like to do everything there at least once every time I go. I also am a big fan of thrill rides, especially roller coasters, but I go to Six Flags or Cedar Point for those. I go to Disney for the 'magic' that is there, the theming, the memories, the fun that amusement parks don't have.

I would love to see Epcot get a new ride or two, but I don't think there is a need for a complete overhaul. Epcot was always my favorite park growing up(I'm 21), and I still find FW fun in its own way. If Disney feels that chaging FW in the way Discoveryland is described I don't think I'll be the only person upset. There might be people out there who think it's great, but what happens when you get bored with it? I can just picture everyone complaining that MK would need to be changed to be more 'thrilling'.

Just my thoughts :)

Okay...here we go again. LISTEN UP! Walt Disney himself said WDW would be an always changing place. Oh look, guess what, one of the parks is changing.....thats the whole point, you want an out of date 80's style park...fine, I know I sure don't. Why is it so hard to think that, OH MY GOD, this might be a GREAT thing?Everyone is concered with this and that, seriously, what say do anyone of us have in what Disney's final plan will be? Oh thats right, nothing at all. Let change happen, those that try to hinder change are missing the point. If they can bring in more people to experience the magic of disney, I say GO FOR IT. PROGRESS PROGESS PROGRESS. Beat that word into your head if you have to. I cannot wait for these new changes. Congrats Disney, and for all those upset with the changes, I think you should be ready to swallow your pride, you will probably be the first people saying how great all the new attractions and pavillions are.

Before you start flaming me, why not look at the part where I agreed that it'd be nice to see Epcot get a new ride or two. I just don't agree that a complete overhaul is needed.

and disney is still making progress al the time, i.e. M:S, progress doesn't not equal making FW one big thrill ride with a bunch of trees

PeeWee Burt :animwink: - For the most part, those that have a problem with the plan don't have a problem with change. Its HOW its changing.

There are many ways Epcot could address its issues. The important thing is to find the BEST way, not just ANY way.

I cannot stress the importance of that line enough. Well done.

This new place looks AWESOME. i really ove the edition of the coaster and time racers. But i would really like to see the ellen energy show go away.

I think I am just going to stop posting. Everyone reads my posts the wrong way. I am not trying to call out any one. That is my opinion....When I said 80's I meant out of date. It needs to be changed. So many people are making a fuss out of this and that. IT'S NOT EVEN A FINAL PLAN YET! Just let Disney do its thing. I am quite sure you will do the same thing that everyone is doing with Mission: Space. Everyone was flipping out about horizons....yet the building was FALLING DOWN! Just sit back and enjoy.
