Hello all!

I am in search of insight regarding Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. It is apparent that Disney is continuously investing into SOTMK, with new promotional cards being released seasonally. However I was curious about the company's future plans.

I personally have a complete 1-70 set along with all of the holiday cards, and have been long wondering if there are any new series to come.

Does anyone out there have any information? Perhaps a Sorcerers Series 2?

Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom is one of my favorite experiences at the Magic Kingdom. I love the scavenger hunt aspect of it, combined with it utilizing spaces that you'd often simply walk by at the Magic Kingdom. This to me is what experiencing an creative immersive environment like Disney is all about.

I am surprised that the legions of Haunted Mansion fans haven't latched-on to it in droves, as their is often crossover between scary- fantasy and sorcery-fantasy.

Actually I am surprised that SOTMK isn't continually getting raves by "die hard" Disney Park fans.

It has interaction, incorporates animation, gives underutilized "magic" Disney characters representation in the park, uses off the beaten path areas with full Imagineering details, incorporates skill in playing the cards, involves collecting, has an incredibly cool sigil, etc. etc.

It is easily one of my top attractions at the Magic Kingdom.

I agree entirely, sundown! It's a shame it hasn't grown in popularity. I still witness guests trying to figure out what it even is today. But it does certainly add an "Easter-egg" like flair to the park, and perhaps it's best left on a small scale..

I have watched the popularity dwindle over the past 4 years, so that is an excellent point..

I think it does excite a percentage of guests, those that are frequent visitors that can play on a regular basis. For the majority of guests that visit once a year or less, it may be fun to experience it for a part of the day that they are in MK, but not worth continued playing long term. Time is limited and there are other parks to visit, it does eat up a lot of park time to complete a map and get through a series of play. Some die hard collectors of Disney memorabilia will go on e-bay to buy an obscure card to complete their collection of cards so there will be interest in that, but Disney isnt profiting off it.

Can anyone answer why there are no "portals" in tomorrowland? Unless they're planning a major redesign, I don't see why a hidden portal or two over there wasn't included in the plans.

I agree....I also wished it expanded througout the world...That way it made it much more of a challenge...

We had annual passes for a year and finally completed the game after several trips. If we were only visiting once, I can't imagine wanting to spend too much time playing it. That said, it is fun. And when you have some time to kill before a show of FP but lines are long, it's a nice filler.

My only complaint would be the times (usually at night) when the cameras don't see the card well, so you fail that portal.

I'd guess it's because of space. Tomorrowland doesn't really have space/layout for 4-6 portals to keep a round contained within the land. The only places I can think of where one could stick a portal are really areas that are currently empty walls. The other lands have much more thematic "stuff" they can use to integrate a portal in, so it doesn't stick out.

Not to mention the lack of villains that fit into Tomorrowland theming. None of the space themed "villains" I can think of were really villains. Gantu & Jumba aren't really villains, having Zurg do anything really malicious is tough since he is a toy, and even if you dug up someone from Atlantis most guests wouldn't have the clue who they were. I may be missing someone here, but if it's not obvious, then the average guest wouldn't get it either.

I actually used to work that game and it was very frustrating from our point of view because people would complain to us all day about the game and we had no control over it, it was the maintenance cms jobs to clean the portals etc. Some really liked working the game, others didnt, I used to be in the firehouse giving the same spiel to guests constantly for 2 hours on how to play the game, it got old after awhile lol

As a former CM who worked there, it was because Tomorrowland was a place of "Tomorrow' existing in the future, and the game doesnt take place in the future.

Zurg wouldn't be a problem if Disney bothered to lean on the TV show's lore and actually make the Buzz ride set in the world of the real Buzz Lightyear and not some grandiose playtime thing
Using TV material could also result in Gantu and Hamsterviel for a Stitch-based mission.
Also, you've got Turbo and the Cy-Bugs.
