I'm new to the boards, so excuse me if is such a touchy subject. All the snide and cynical really make a person feel welcomed.

Don't take it personally, it's just that this a topic that has had many, sometimes heated, discussions on this board. If you have some new information to contribute to the discussion I would be interested in hearing it. As of this point there is no evidence that Disney or Uni has an interest in changing the Marvel agreement.

Well just the other day they paid off Paramount a huge amount of money to get the distribution rights to the Phase One marvel films so it could happen though I agree it's less likely. I could see Universal eventually dropping the Marvel stuff if a better opportunity comes around like Lord of the Rings for example.
I doubt another property will replace Marvel anytime soon because the deal is far too heavily in favor of Universal at this point. Nobody else is going to offer them a fixed fee for perpetuity. While Disney could make a monetary offer they would accept I have a hard time seeing it due to the extreme cost that would be needed as just a minimum (lost revenue from the land being closed along with the cost of developing and building a new land). The more likely scenario in my mind is that Disney over-saturates the market with Marvel properties and makes the Marvel name worthless, at which point Disney probably won't have much use for it either.

Another possibility is inflation going through the roof and the licensing fee becoming too costly.

I would say, "Enough money for them to replace the land, cover the loss of business during whatever downtime is there, and potentially fund a 3rd gate"

Well, they could just renegotiate the exclusivity of the properties, so they can use characters that are not actively used by Universal (most of the characters whose theme parks rights they retain are big cutouts). But hey, i'm not a lawyer ;)

And I was thinking... what about Guardians of the Galaxy?

Theoretically possible, if it can be argued they are not in the "Family" of the characters that Universal is currently using. However, that film is going to tie into The Avengers which kind of undermines the argument of them not being related.

Big Hero 6 might be another option once that movie comes out, though I guess it could be argued that they are related to the X-men.

And the reality is that none of these groups are popular enough to warrant their own isolated ride at WDW.

Personally, I've always thought they should develop a Fantastic Four ride for DLR and just redo it for The Incredibles at WDW. 3/4 members of the team have the same powers and Dr. Doom and Syndrome are pretty similar too.

Don't forget that this community is not a kind one quite a bit of the time.

Why would Universal be willing to this?

We still don't know how GotG is goin to tie in with the Avengers franchise (beside setting up Thanos), but nobody knows if they're going to show up in the second Avengers movie.

And these groups are not popular *right now*, but the box office will be judge (i'm actually really excited for GotG, cosmic adventures, Chris Pratt and a talking raccoon are my cup of tea)

Well, money? I'm just trying to imagine different scenarios. A bump in Marvel tourism could be good for IoA too.

Or they could just get the LOTR rights, keep their Marvel rights, and drop one of their other properties that is far far less popular and far far far less valuable to their rival down the road like any normal person with an ounce of sense would do...

And good God, why do we have to have this conversation again?
