Fun Ways You Save for Disney

Thought it'd be interesting to see different fun ways people save money for their WDW trips.

We just started 2yrs ago saving all of our change into a WDW piggy bank. We only put silver coins in it. Sounds silly but after a year or so we fill it up and there's like $400 in there per year and we do 2 nice dinners with that money each trip.

We have a coin jar too but we don't get anywhere close to $400 in a year. We get closer to $100. We also set aside money from coupons that I use grocery/supply shopping. Like if I use $2 worth of coupons on my groceries we set aside $2 in our trip fund, we figure we "saved" that money shopping so we might as well actually put it somewhere. In one year we had saved close to $100-$150 in coupon money.

All spare change over $1.25 is saved. Nickles and dimes go in an actual piggy shaped bank. Quarters take up too much room in the pig, so thay are saved in a plastic bag and put in a coin wrapper as soon as there is $10.00. These are saved. Pennies have their own special jar. When the pig and the jar are full, all money is put in a savings type account.

If there is any grocery money left over (rarely), that is saved. We also save all of the rewards we accumulate on our Disney Visa card. These are to be used exclusively for our next trip to Disney. Plus we only use the Visa and keep any other cards as a back up only. While the rewards are not much, we pay off our charges each month so the rewards do accumulate fairly quickly.

We used a penny jar for the last couple of years and actually recycled our soda cans and sold them. Kids have several hundred dollars that's been designated as petty cash for stuff in shops or a trip to Fun Spot for go carts and what not.

I quit smoking and it was enough to take 3 of us to Disney for a week for my sons 10th birthday and still dont smoke and we go every year ( He is turning 16 and we will go again I hope) It was enough incentive to see the fun we all had instead of me smoking to never smoke again !

Congratulations on quitting, and helping to ensure that your family can enjoy many future years with you -- with WDW vacations, no less! :)

I have a Piggy Bank in the bathroom and instead of my husband throwing his change on the counter, he puts it in the Piggy. I empty it into a larger jar so that he is not tempted to use it. We also have Premier Disney Visa Card and pay most of our bills and groceries etc with it and then pay it off at the end of the month. Every chance that I have a few extra $$, I buy a Disney Gift Card at the grocery store. Every little bit helps....:cat:

I get some envelopes & decorate them. Each one has a category, like "Souvenirs", "Food", "Recreation", etc. If we have extra money, we pick an envelope and put it one there. It's fun, and by the time the trip comes around we have cash saved up!

We have a separate savings account just for Disney. We have it set on auto transfer from our checking account so it is very easy. We also have a Chase Disney card so every $100 we spend we get $1 disney dollar. Last time I checked we had enough for two nights at a deluxe resort! I love getting the updates saying how many points I have because that is less $ I have spend! We use this card for groceries, gas, and any day to day expenses. As long as you pay the full balance off every month, you don't pay any finance charges. Basically just by using this card we get free Disney $ that we can use to pay for resorts, food, souvenirs etc.
