Fun Money Saving for Disney

I will build my own Money Box every year out of Pine( woodworking teacher) and decorate it with all things Disney, including pics of our resort, rides etc and the date of our trip. We would fill it with ALL our lose change, I personally will put in all single dollar bills and fives. sometimes ill slip folded envelopes in it with kids names on them and fill with cash ( mystery until they open it at airport).....Then the day before the trip we will have our Grand Opening and bring the change to bank, pour it into counter and see numbers go up and up. Then come back home and count the bills. Its truly an event. Last summer came out to $685.....all extra for our trip. What are some things you do.

I take all the change and $1 & $5 and stuff into the drawer in the vantiy in the bathroom until its full then i will put everything in a HIDDING spot that only know where it is and let it collect until we go!! I also transfer $25 or $50 each week into a saving account for cash for our trips. Between this 2 ways of savimg this will be enought for our bar tabs and tips at all our meals!!! And i will take some of the cash when we get to the world and get each DD a $100 gift card for them to buy what they want. So easy to save when you know its for a trip to DISNEY!!!!

I was looking for some ways to save for my next Disney trip. Usually with my loose change I hide it then count it right before Christmas and buy a Christmas gift for myself weird huh lol. What I was thinking on doing is putting maybe 5-10 dollars somewhere every Friday and then open it up the day before my trip and see how much. The whole loose coin thing I was going to use that to buy a camera this year to take to Disney next time but I might scrap that idea. I'd like to stay on property on my next trip to hopefully celebrate my birthday.

I save ALL my change - I'm pretty rabid about it! Even people I work with make fun of me about it!
Every time we get ready to plan a trip I buy a plastic piggy bank from the Dollar store that I decorate with Disney stickers that I put $1' & $5's in - I glue the plug in the bottom so it can't be opened and robbed until we are ready to go.
Direct deposit part of my paycheck into a vacation club at my Credit Union, along with any "found" money that comes along.
Buy a $25.00 Disney gift card every week when I buy my groceries.

I have a giant piggy bank on my dresser, and I painted V&A on the side. Every month I put $20 in there so hopefully in about 3 years when I return to the world, me and my wife can get the chef table at V&A. And of course with the wine pairings.

We have a jar we drop all our change into (we empty it is twice a year..once for Disney and once for the beach). When it gets full we dump that into a bucket hidden in the closet. Change alone is around $500 and then my DH and I drop all $1s we have left over in there also we usualy end up with $1000 or so for the kidos and us to spend.
I also put back $80 each paycheck to cover DDP and tickets.
But I like the idea of buying the $25 gift cards each week... We have 84 days until we leave and that would be a great surprise:sohappy:.

I have $150.00 every payday but into a fund for our next Disney visit.

Also, every week day morning I stop at Dunkin Donuts and get my coffee paying with either a $10 or $20 dollar bill. I take all the $1 $5 and coins I receive as change and put them in my "Disney Fund." It adds up guickly. The only issue is cashing them in. I went up to the teller's window with over $3,000.00 in 5's and 1's. The teller looked at me a little strange, as here is a 60 year old man with all these small bills. I told her I was a Chippendale dancer but I don't think she believe me, but it did make her wonder.

We need time for things to happen.
Clap your hands..

Bottles and Cans just claps your hands...

Along with all the change in piggy banks, and car ashtrays, we usually
have a ton of returnable cans that bring in some loot as well.

Makes the sticky business of returning soda and beer cans sooo much more worth while...:)

savings for the happiest place on earth

well i took my family for the first time last april and the withdrawel is still with me...its all i think about...but with a two month old daughter as well as a 4 yr old, we are bypassing this year :(:( to go to myrtle beach (easier with a baby) but alas, we have 421 days till were in mickeys backyard again and what im doing is putting 50 bucks a week in savings acc....then in august when disney publishes their specials for next yr i can drop a huge amount down, then just keep paying 50 a week until a month or two before we go, then just pay the rest off....youd be surprised, by the time feb rolls around its like 90 % paid for....i dont think i can wait another yr though....ugh:eek:

I do the $1's and $5's thing, plus all the spare change, and transfer cash into our "Disney Account".

For those in the Pittsburgh area, here's a good way to save money from and for your Disney trip. Save up cash for your trip. Then get Disney Gift Cards at Giant Eagle when they are running double Fuel Perks to pay for your trip. Use the fuel perks to get free gas (always get your 30 gallons, use gas cans for the extra 8 to 10 gallons). If you use your Fuel Perks correctly you'll save close to 10% off your Disney trip. More like 8% if it's the normal $.10/gallon, but close to 12% to 14% if you get double Fuel Perks. Throw in purchasing them with a a Disney Visa and you get another 1% towards Disney purchases.

How to translate this into cash? When you go to GetGo to fill up, keep your receipt and take that amount of cash out of your fuel budget and put it into your Disney envelope.

Done and done.

Cheers,
Indy

What if someone breaks into your house and sees a nicely decorated Disney jar and takes it? I use an old powder baby formula can for our Disney money jar and keep it in the pantry. I figure you would have to be pretty cold to think about taking a baby formula can. We use other toddler food to help it blend with its surroundings.

Thought about using my work ESOP to save. They match 15% of your payroll deduction, then sell it before our trip. You have to pay income tax on that when you file, I don't know if I would come out ahead? If your stock tanked that would suck also.

We'll I wouldn't say my $$$ saving technique in fun per-say but it gets the job done... Every pay day, leading up to a trip I add $$$ to my Disney Gift Card ... That way I pretty much have all my spending money saved by the time my trip rolls around, AND I get my Disney fix every other week b/c I get to go the Disney store to load the $$$ on to my gift card! :sohappy:

Besides setting aside our change each week, husband saves his tips from work. We try to have a garage sale each summer to clear out the stuff and that also goes for WDW and we live an hour from a casino, so we try to make a trip up there now and then and have done pretty well last few times and it all goes in the kitty!
