Fuel rods, any good? Cost?

Hi, had a quick look around but not seen anything regarding the current pricing of a fuel rod...

Once purchased I understand you can just swap the dead ones for a charged one around the parks?

Would any one recommend?

I have one & I really like it. I believe I paid $30 on Disney property. Our airport has them for $25 so you might want to see if you can find it somewhere like that. Yes, you can swap it out. I've never had an issue not being able to get another one at the parks. I stay at POR & the last 2 times I was there it was empty the whole time. You can always charge it yourself too.

I've got one that I purchased in Disneyland, and is working fine, I usually just end up charging it myself. It was $30 same as WDW. My daughter has one that she swaps all the time it it works fine for her (uses her phone much more than me).

You can buy it online for $20.00 + $5.00 shipping, or purchase it at WDW for $30.00. It is a convenient tool, as you can swap it out in the parks.

Here is my problem with it: it is only 2400 mAh (I've heard that number is actually lower, but we'll go with this.) Depending on the type of phone you have, this might not be sufficient for a full charge. I have an iPhone 7 Plus, the capacity is 2900 mAh. I would have to swap the fuel rod to get a full charge.

You can purchase a portable charger with 20000 mAh for the same price or less on Amazon. No swapping necessary. Just charge it in your room at night. My personal favorite is my Ainope 10000 mAh. It is 24.99 on Amazon, lightweight, and fast.

Yes. Bought one last year. There are also kiosks in most major airports.

Much better ones available for less (higher capacity). Then just charge over night and take with you each day.

For the $30 you're paying for the convenience of switching but with a cheaper higher capacity one it really isn't necessary.

Buy an Anker portable battery from Amazon. I have a fuel rod and it will only charge my iPhone X about 1/2 way. There are many more options that work better and cost less.
I’d agree with those that tell you to just buy a higher capacity portable battery somewhere, and don’t worry about exchanging in the parks.

Thanks all, I have a 3000 already and had decided it was just easier to get another 5000 and take one on a morning and one in the evening, thanks :)

We bought one this weekend. Bought from the kiosk in Pecos Bills. It was $30 with unlimited swapping. I like how small it is (a little larger than a tube of lipstick). I was able to get about 40 percentage points from a full charge (about 2 hours). I brought a longer charging cable with me so I could keep the fuel rod in my bag and keep my phone in my hands. We also have the larger capacity, but I really thought it was convenient to have and swap in park instead of worrying if you forget to change your other while not in use.

We have 2 Jackery 5600's that we take with us, and alternate each day. One in the backpack, one charges.

Sometimes Amazon sells these stupid cheap. We got ours for $ 14.99 ea

I found the kiosks were difficult to locate and like others said the fuel rod didn’t hold a long charge. I liked the idea but it wasn’t as convenient as I had hoped.

We were highly considering buying Fuel Rods, because we could exchange them for “fully charged” rods at many kiosks on property at no additional cost. That was, until we discovered the following:

The fuel rods do not charge any device as much as advertised (mAh). Many reviews online will note this.

If we got used to having a Fuel Rod and wanted to use them at home, we would be stuck with a charger that couldn’t fully charge our devices and with nowhere in town to exchange them. So....

Why not buy a charger that works as advertised, does not cost as much, and I’m not limited to using it at WDW and several other locations across country? That’s if I would happen to come across a kiosk.

Plugging in a charger at night is pretty simple to get the only extra charge I’ll need for the day, instead of spending my time walking to kiosks for half-charges per Fuel Rod.

We settled on a beast of an Anker that will charge up to 3 devices at once and will fully charge an iPad Air 2x. The charger is comparable to the size of an iPhone plus with an Otterbox Defender case on. We bought that for about $45 on sale. It may seem like overkill, but our children have their own devices, which being able to keep those charged can be a blessing during a road trip

Objects in the mirror are larger than they appear.

There are lipstick-style chargers (Anker has one) that are less expensive than Fuel Rod and provide a better charge. Just look on Amazon and at video reviews.

If you do have Apple devices, keep note that while the initial Fuel Rod purchased will come with a lightning adapter, many other chargers will not. You’ll need to use your usual charging cord or buy one, if you want a cord especially for the charger.

Hope this helps.
