Ft Wilderness Cabins

We're going to WDW 8/30-9/2. At first, it was just my sister, me and my two little ones. We were supposed to stay at Coronado Springs. My DH is now able to join us so we had to switch resorts. We are now staying in a Ft Wilderness cabin. We have never stayed here before and are excited. I have read reviews on allears.net. I was hoping someone on this board would have some feedback or useful info. Thanks so much!!!!

We've stayed there twice..........and we love it!!!! It's such a fun place to be. My family canoed, went fishing, did the petting zoo, the campfires at night. Hoop de doo, but River Country was also there and we spent a lot of time in there also. Discovery Island, it was just the best!

I've stayed in the cabins twice and I've loved it both times... it's very nice and quiet and the kitchen in the cabin is especially nice for breakfast... my family especially liked that we were all able to stay in one cabin together instead of two separate rooms... the extra activities at Ft. Wilderness like the boating, campfire, etc. are really fun... the only problem I ever had was with the Ft. Wilderness internal bus system; it can be annoying at times, but IMO the perks of Ft. Wilderness more than compensate for that minor inconvenience... I really hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!

From AllEars:
[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Fort Wilderness is a large resort area. The Fort Wilderness map says the campground is "one mile as the crow flies" long but some say it's more like 1.5 miles long, one-half mile wide. There are internal buses running within the campground to get you to the marina, the Trading Posts, pools, etc., but bus waits can be up to 20 minutes. It is very much of an advantage time-wise to either have bicycles or to have the electric golf carts. Carts can be rented for $47/day plus tax (or $12/hour) at the Bike Barn (407-824-2742); however, the supply is limited so call ahead to reserve a cart. Fort Wilderness carts may be reserved up to one year in advance.

NOTE: There is a 10 percent discount if you rent the cart for the week.

We LOVE the cabins! I would agree, though, that the bus system is a pain. Don't forget the nightly campfire sing-a-longs and movies. You can also watch the light parade on the water from the beach (not overly exciting, but a tradition for us!)

Take advantage of the full kitchen by making a few meals - it'll save you a few bucks, too!

Have a great time!

The bus system is indeed a bit annoying at times, but not too bad. The accommodations are great - quite a bit larger than what you can get for the price elsewhere. It's a bit buggier than other areas of WDW, but hey, it's the great outdoors  The other thing to consider is that many areas are very dark at night - didn't really bother me, but my wife said she felt like Jason from Friday the 13th might be coming out of the woods at any time...

I would rent the golf cart right away. I wouldn't stay there without one. They ran out when we were there last April. That being said, it was great fun staying there. The cabins are adorable. My kids are older, so we didn't do all of the fun campground activities. It would be a lot of fun with younger kids. Have a great time.
