Ft. Wilderness Cabins and Hurricanes?

Hi all,

We are scheduled to be at WDW the fist week of Sept Next year with our frineds and we are staying at the Wilderness Lodge Cabins. Now in the past we have never worried about staying at WDW during the Hurricane season as we have always stayed in one of the extreemly well built hotels. This time we will be in a dressed up mobile home and are thus a little more concerned about what would happen if a Hurricane came through. There are alot of trees that could come crashing down. Has anyone stayed at Ft. Wilderness Cabins during a Hurricane? Do you ride it out in the cabin or do they move you to a more sturdy location?

thanks,

Kevin and Mona

In the event of a hurricane warning you will be evacuated to one of Disney's other resorts.

Which are all very sturdy and pass all kinds of hurricane tests. Have slept through a couple of hurricanes while at Disney. Except for the wind and some limbs down you never knew anything had happened.

Yep. Disney has always been ahead of the curve on storm resistant construction. Quite honestly I would feel safer riding out a hurricane at Disney then in my own home that I built way past code.

I'm pretty sure that Disney would also run checks on the health of trees near the resorts too - it can't guarentee that none will come down but they will at least identify and remove those which may fall and cause harm.

While I am sure that they take down the dead and dying trees there really is very little you can do to predict which trees will come down in a storm. Quite frequently the ground becomes so saturated that even the healthiest tree will simply pull up out of the ground. Also quite ironically the dead trees that have lost all of their leaves are less likely to come down in a storm because they offer less wind resistance.
