I just skimmed through the entire show and I was very impressed. Very cool technology going into this production.

That said, I really can't figure out why there are so many dislikes/hate comments on the "highlights" clip from the ITM channel. Is it just nostalgia for the Aladdin show? Or are people just blinded by the "I hate frozen and everything associated with it" mentality?

Its pretty much both really. That being said, I loved Aladdin A Musical Spectacular and I love Frozen still to this day. While I spent 11 years of my AP life watching Aladdin at DCA, I understand things have to leave even if its replacement is something that a lot of people might not like. I felt sad leaving my last Aladdin show but at the same time, looking forward to watching the new show. I'm watching it today with an open mind and I'm sure I'll love it!

Watched full 1:00 PM Opening Day Performance on Youtube recorded by Jeff Reitz. "Meh" video quality, but a nice chronicle of the first public showing, warts and all. Don't watch if you're gonna see this show anytime soon, because it really will spoil a TON of technical surprises this production packs.

All I can say is WOW. This is the most amazing thing Disney's ever put on a park stage. It has pacing issues that I'm sure will be fixed over the next few weeks, and it straddles a weird line between being too long/faithful to the film yet also moving too quickly to get much true emotion across... but that doesn't matter. This is spectacular, unforgettable and FUN.

The sled chase scene is worth the price of a DCA ticket, and Sven is the best thing ever-- The audience reaction when he steps onstage for the first time is priceless. Can not wait to see this in person! :D

It's both. From a small minority of folks who apparently wanted Aladdin to continue for another 13 years, through 2029.

Are there any original jokes like in the Aladdin play, or are they all just verbatim from the movie?
Not verbatim, more like a remix. I do like the way the performers often adjust the gag timing to play to the fact that the audience is expecting it--particularly with Olaf. Most of the "new" humor comes from the physical comedy, and much of it is wonderful; the sled chase finale deserves the applause it gets. And Sven's silent reactions are my favorite thing in the whole show.

*Slightly Spoilery* Speaking of additions and changes, though... Did anybody else tear up at that new little musical story bit at the end with the balcony? I admit it; it got to me.
Yeah I thought that was a nice emotional touch that I felt the original movie itself could have benefitted from. This play acknowledges that the parents cause the messed up situation that Elsa and Anna are in whereas in the film that's more subtle.

Idina herself has a difficult time singing it live. I suspect the movie version was a combination of best takes edited together—the way most modern music is "recorded."
Yep, it's probably not an easy song to pull off...judging by the Disney fans singing during fireworks, WOC, pretty much anything it's in...it's very, very difficult ; )

Watched it via YouTube earlier today. It's basically a retelling of the movie with little to no deviation. Absolutely no uniqueness or reason to watch it more than once. I was impressed by the special effects and laughed at some of the jokes but overall it fell flat with me.

I just watched part of the show via online video, just past the sled scene. And you all know I don't like Frozen the Movie (although I do like the "Frozen Fever" short, for some reason).

I have to say that I was impressed with what I saw. The lady performing Anna is flat-out wonderful. Her performance improves that character 100%. As for the lady performing Elsa, she's fine, although her voice cracked and went off-key at one point during her "Let It Go" performance. But that's live stage performing for you. Big deal. As for the snow-and-ice scenic effects during her song, well, the audience was certainly impressed with them. I was kinda "meh", but maybe you have to see them in person to fully appreciate them.

The overall effects and the transitioning between scenes were clever and elegant IMO.

Heck, the next time I visit Disneyland, I'll definitely see the show. Looks like fun.

Based on what I've seen online, I'm looking forward to seeing this. As I've said before, I don't hate Frozen--just Frozen Mania. The versions I've seen of Olaf are tremendous. The special effects look amazing and, having done theater, I wonder what it takes to pack Elsa into her transformation dress--I suspect it's rather like packing a parachute! I think the metaphor of the doors is a strong choice. I had no problem with obvious technical details being visible, such as the safety lines at the top of the stairs or the hooking/unhooking of aerial lines from Sven/Kristoff/Anna. Again, I'm most looking forward to seeing Olaf--both the performer and the puppet look wonderful.

Disney wrote the rule book, therefore it is able to rewrite it however it chooses.

First the black Elsa had some people "baffled", then the hour long runtime had others "concerned", yet through this entire thread not one person has taken into account that perhaps all or some of the rumors might turn out to not be true or pan out differently.

How's that working for you?
