So this thing now works with infrared tech? I think I remember this from back in the 70s, except the guns just shot flashes of regular light. (If it wasn't at WDW it was somewere else - ok, that's a dumb sentence!) My brothers and I had fun with our flash camera, triggering all the targets at once. Do people remember this Shootin' Arcade from that far back?

It works to a point. I am not sure why, but only a very powerful flash will give you any decent results at DL or WDW

However, other shooting arcades like this though go nuts with even a basic camera flash.

I realize the odds of spending money on something they only keep around for nostalgic reasons is close to nil, but I kind of wish Disney would upgrade the shooting gallery to work on lasers.

Bass Pro Shops often have a really high-quality shooting gallery in them that work with lasers. They've often very difficult, because of how small the spread of the "bullet" is, but very rewarding.

We love going here! But I have tried to use my flash and trigger stuff but can't. Oh well, I can't hit the targets very well either!;)

This is more than likely the reason they don't. While it would be challenging for someone like you and I, it would be frustrating and unrewarding for a 6 year old.

A little relieved, I saw this and expected a rant from a parent about how having a shooting game at WDW was ruining her child's future or some nonsense like that! Thankfully, it's not!

We did this (for the first time) on our last trip because we got swept up in the hidden mickey thing and there a few in this game. I was surprised though, it was actually pretty fun.

There was something about shooting galleries that brought out the mischievousness in me and my brothers, and other kids my age back then. Not only did we enjoy setting off all the targets with a flash camers - once we were playing the "squirt the clown's mouth and pop the balloon game" at Coney Island, and the guy working the booth was a jerk for some reason ( can't remember why). So my brothers and I came up with a plan, and when the guy started the game we all aimed at the same big stuffed prize, soaked it, and ran. So satisfying!

Also, on the riflery range at camp, we used .22 rifles. It was loads more fun to aim for the clothes pins that held up the targets, than at the targets themselves. When you hit one you got a satisfying burst of splinters.

Good times...

Love the Shootin' Galery. Spent several $ there with my son this past Dec. He was only 4-1/2 so Aiming close to where he was aiming helped him feel that he was actually hitting the targets. And when I stopped hearing the sound form his gun, which he had a healthy trigger finger, stop making sounds I would continue with my shooting and he enjoyed watching "me" hit the targets also. An update would be OK or at least a refreshed look. No CGI or video screen, like HS Toy Story ride, but maybe just a refreshed look.

That second video is the one we tried this at as kids - or at least it looks exactly the same. It may have been at a shopping mall in Miami called Omni?

Somehow we end up spending some :greedy: at our local Cabela's gallery.
