Wonder if this was one of the surprises @wdwmagic referred to

I had the same thought when I saw it!

I literally worked in Ops for years, what are you talking about? We had all kinds of pointless positions in rotation that most parks (including Disney now apparently) wouldn't have bothered with. We would even sometimes get bumped to a position called "magic moments," where we would literally just walk around our respective land and randomly do something to make a guest's day; like taking random groups of guests out of line at Space Mountain and escorting them to the front and then riding it with them, or giving them free ice cream bars. Stuff like that. Even the greeter position at attractions with no restrictions is largely pointless, just part of the Disney Difference.

1. They literally still do that, and;

2. The only staff that has been been at the Shootin' Arcade in the past 10 years (minimum) has been a maintenance guy when the change machine is broken, which is often. There's no additional coverage in between the DVC kiosk and the cash register in that first merch shop.

Oh, that's really interesting - I didn't know that they hadn't been staffing it anymore. Kinda sad, Disney used to position a CM even in places they weren't needed.

That's fantastic to hear that they've had greeters at the Treehouse again! Even when I started in Ops back in 2007, it was rare to see somebody rotated there.
I do remember in the old days there was always CMs around, in your line of site, just to help in general, you could casually walk over and ask questions.

I really don't get you. You reply to my post with a simple, "no." I extrapolate on various "pointless" positions I used to be bumped to in rotation, and you reply, "They literally still do that," and then also proceed to prove my point by telling me that a largely pointless former position is no longer staffed.

Wut?

One of the simple things we enjoy doing thats never got a line to wait for. That may change now that guests realize its free. Ohhh the many quarters I've plunked in the slot to play. My Disney packing list has roll of quarters on it just for that. Hope it stays for when we have a return trip.

In the Parks
No
Meanwhile the Shootin' Arcade is going away 11/27
No it's not. See the other thread on the arcade:

"With rumors of Frontierland Shootin' Arcade's closure swirling, Cinemablend reached out to Walt Disney World for clarification, wondering if the longtime Magic Kingdom staple was actually going extinct. A representative from the park confirmed that their side of the site showed normal operating hours from November 27th to October 11th — the period that was missing from the public side of the site. It was simply a glitch or error in the system causing the missing hours. Frontierland Shootin' Arcade is sticking around."

If you don't want to pay $60 for your family to ride one attraction that takes 4 mins - How 'bout a free 50 year old carnival game??

Seriously, I guess this counts as a huge win today and I shouldn't complain. Thank you Josh D - betting this is your doing.

Enjoy while you can. Disney always bows to the twitter crowd and in due course they will start beating the "guns kill people" drum and Disney will get rid of it.

You could have yellow crime scene tape, blood everywhere, a chalk outline, and there would still be a CM standing there to tell you the area is closed.
