Ok heres one more stupid idiot. I have no clue who he is. My kids were born in 77 and 81 and grandson in 03 and we have no clue who he is.But we rode the boring ride just once I am going to take the new granddaughter age 2 on it by myself cos no one else will. But what is he? He is cute, was there a show that possibly where we lived when the kids were little we didn't have that channel. Makes no sense to devote a ride to a not so known character but we cannot have a good Donald Duck ride or 101 Dalmations etc.. Just some more classic Disney. Get my point. And it is hidden behind the building you taste all the cokes in I believe. Only going on it in 2007 I just don't remember.

Figment was actually derived from the Greek god Figmentos (the god of imagination), and was interpreted as a playful dragon through centuries of being passed through popular European & Asian folklore.

Ok stupid class is over and now we know.,Did basically one thing and warranted a spot in a building. Hes a cutie just the most wasted use of space next to Narnia. Then Honey I shrunk the kids. OLD scratchy and dated We did both of those in a row and though on our first trip.. We thought we were in for a boring time and wondered why Disney would spend so much money to have either of those rides or shows.

I think i should clarify something about my comment at least-
I do NOT think it is stupid if you don't know who Figment is. The stupidity comes in with saying he's a Dr Seuss character. He looks and acts nothing like a Dr Seuss character and no character in those books (from what i've seen) bears any resemblance to him. It's ok to not know who he is or where he came from (something i easily understand), but it's rather stupid to make assumptions like that, especially when he's obviously not from that.
With that said lighteningqueen, you need to realize that the present incarnation of the Imagination ride is just a very sad shadow of what once was (not even a shadow, a completely different and inferior experience). If you aren't aware of the old version, look here ASAP and see WHY people some people like myself love the little guy-

There was once a time where Imagination was a wonderful ride, Figment himself being and iconic mascot of Epcot i'd say (and the ride was one of the best fantasy style dark rides ever created IMHO). Figment and his old friend Dreamfinder were very much deserving of their space there. More so IMO than 101 Dalmations or even Donald Duck (Donald is my fav Disney character of all time). It wasn't based on any prior movie or character, but it didn't need to be (and for that i feel it's all the more great that they created something that i feel is truly original). Children and adults alike adored it, it was truly worthy of its name. The present one just plain stinks (literally and figuratively). An embarrassment to Epcot and Disney as a whole. They completely gutted it and created something different. Too bad what they created is horrible imo, feels like they got 10% done with the plans and just dumped whatever they finished in and hoped it would work ok...:brick:

Well I was calling myself stupid as well as the other poster. I rally didn't know who he was nor did my daughter.. Thats what I said last year on here we talked about bad rides and I did say it was the biggest embarasment as well as waste of time to create something that bad. I had heard many many times how good the old one was. Why did they feel the need to mess it up?? I was just using some classic Disney Stuff for an example. On rides. I am just saying why didn't they do something more Disney like. I wonder what Walt is thinking or would say about that ride. Sad Sad. I will take Harper and let her see the colors she has no idea what he is either. But hopefully she will be one of those kids that say well;;; in my day I saw this really bad ride at Disney...LOL

I don't know exactly why Imagination was screwed up SO badly. The reason for redoing it was something about making it into something that was easier to maintain. And they made an attempt to theme it to Honey i Shrunk the Audience. But failed miserably even in that endeavor.
As for what Walt would say, i personally think he would have been very ticked off at Epcot overall. I'm actually talking about the original plan, not just the messed up version. He very much wanted his "Progress City" project to go through. But as for the ride itself, he probably would have been able to appreciate the old one. I can't imagine him liking the new one, but i'd imagine he'd be able to see the brilliance of the old ride.
I'm glad they were able to create an original attraction that didn't need to be related to prior movies or characters. And that IS something Walt would probably have appreciated, the concept at least. Many of his rides weren't based directly on movies or characters from his past works. I fail to see why everything needs to be themed to an already existing idea. That's why the idea is so brilliant.
The only characters i could see possibly being able to replace Dreamfinder and Figment in the original theme of the 80's attraction are Merlin and Archimedes. Only because Merlin and Dreamfinder are so similar in style to me anyways. But again, i appreciate that they chose NOT to delve into recycled material and just go all out with something original. I'd even be open to the possibility of a movie based on the original attraction, it had potential.
