Friends List?

I have a couple of questions that may seem simple-minded to the more internet-savvy, but in my little world they are quite complex.
What is the purpose of a friends list on this forum? I recently received a request, and, not being a snobbish sort of fellow, I accepted. My problem is that I have no idea as to the purpose of having "friends" on this forum. I thought we were all pals.
Also, is it proper etiquette to return with a request for friendship with the same individual? Was I being rude or aloof by not sending a request to the same individual when accepting his/her request. In my time here, I have not even looked up user's profiles, let alone sent private requests or messages, and so I'm completely ignorant of such things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:ROFLOL:Yes....you are being so rude....I cant believe you are even on here hahahahahaha!!! JK!!!! I send requests because it is easier to just go to my home page and pull up that person if I want to send them a pm or something to that nature. To me it is faster than going and looking for said person. I sent someone a friend req the other day and I didnt hear back from them so I just sent a msg to see if that person got it because I was having some computer probs and didnt know if it actually sent it.

I've never really understood the purpose of it either. I accept all incoming fire though, since it seems like the civil thing to do.

So.. by accepting their request, I am automatically placed as a member on their home page list of friends? When I accepted this individual's request, he/she was placed on my home page friends' list. Does that mean that I am placed on their list also, and so any reciprocal request is unnecessary?

That's my understanding.

I thought it was a bit like air miles. The more friends you have the more lines you get in your signature.
Wouldn't that be awesome, accept Steve would probably begin to hate those of us who have like 60 friends because he'd always have to make sure we weren't hiding something in our signature...:lookaroun:lol:

Designating people as a friend also places them on your contact list (tool bar, quick links, open contacts popup); by clicking on this you can see which of your friends is online. You will also see a little cross next to their name at the bottom of the forum homepage in the current online list; this comes in handy if you want to send a message and are looking for a rather quick answer.
