Yea, but usually the belly of the plane scrapes the ground as it crashes. The pilots usually escape without any harm, so if you sit there, you should be pretty safe.

did you ever see the show about the pilot who got blown out the window of the airplane? true story. and he lived.

I would think for a first trip you won't need to plan much more than going to the theme parks and maybe a sit down meal or 2. That alone should overwhelm a first time guest!

As funny as the other replies have been, I thought maybe one serious one might be useful.

The first time I went, we checked in late afternoon and had a hour in the hotel to sort our stuff out and have a drink and settle in. We then took the bus to Epcot. When you get off the bus at Epcot after it is dark, and you walk around from the bus stop to the main entrance, you come around the corner, hear the music and see SE lit up; that is the best first night Disney experience I have ever had. To then walk to the showcase just in time to see the fireworks start should ensure a lasting impression.

Air Emergency on National Geographic Channel

i don't remember the specifics, but they held the piolit(or co-piolit, i don't remember) by his legs for the remainder of the flight. he was hanging out of the window

i can't remember exactly what the story was, but i promis you, however fantastical it amy sound, we arn't lying

Bring a portable DVD player, and bring along to watch: Airport, Airport 75, Airport 77, Airport 79, Alive, Fearless, and Final Destination.
:goodnevil

That's so cruel. I wish I thought of it for my ex's first time on the plane but we didn't have dvds back then.

I would get them some Earplanes (suppose to help relieve the pressure on takeoffs and descents), if there is time see if the airport has classes for first timers, take them to the airport ahead of time (well before the trip) and watch some planes taking off.

Hope there is more I can do to help.

And what "show" is that?

It is an urban myth that anyone will get "sucked out" of an airplane. Unless the hole in the fuselage is large enough to where he basically "fell out" of the airplane. A hole from a bullet to the size of a hula hoop will NOT "suck' someone out of an airplane.

air emergency on national geographic, i thinkk the flight was from spain to london, and one of the cocpit windows came off, he wasnt wearing his seat belt, he got sucked partially out of the plane, then the male flight attendant held onto him and the co pilot landed, then after being up extremely cold air for almost a half hour the pilot lived.

i will post a link if i find it.

Just to add to the argument; nobody has ever been sucked out of a plane. They may be blown out due to the high pressure of the cabin rushing to equalise with the low pressure ambient environment. This depends greatly on the height, speed, size of hole etc. And whether this has ever happened, or is an urban myth is, I think, missing the point of the thread somewhat.

Right now my friend is 30 and he turns 31 on Dec 22nd. So maybe doing the pin for his birthday would be good.

I have just re-read the reply I left late last night. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, I was tired and looking back now it, it wasn't very well written.

Hope no offence caused - none intended

If you're flying for the first time

If you'd like to make the insane security more bearable, please read this.
I used to take a CD or portable DVD player. Now they want to open it up every time and swipe with a little cloth for questionable (I guess explosive) residue.

I pack a small MP3 player (Ipod w/ mega WDW sounds :)), cellphone without headset, necessities like toothbrush/paste, 1 small book or magazine, regular size Snickers bar, and a very light change of clothes as the only items in a carry-on in case luggage is lost or delayed.
Don't wear a belt. Do wear socks. Do wear easy to slip on/off sneakers.
Check wallets/purses and empty out anything not necessary for the trip, including security cards for office buildings.

Remember at Disney... when your in WDW for your birthday every day you are there IS your birthday. The pins are cool, they are free (yes I said free, even at WDW!!) and ever C.M. that notices it is supposed to wish him a happy day. If your lucky you get a cool CM at a meal or two that really stirs up a fuss!! :)

Corny as it may be besure to let them know at the front desk of your hotel as well and they will dial up a special B-Day message for your friend. Tell him to just lighten up and go with the flow and enjoy..

------
I once had a friend tell me "I'm gonna stick you in the eye with a fork!!" if I didn't stop setting him up with B-day wishes at all our dining  Boy you should have seen the look on our waiter when he said that... he was of course kidding but it was a blast.
Ya he's still my friend, right Chuck??
---
Sorry went a little of topic.. He'll love his first time!!
