I was watching all the CMs running excitedly in and out of the ride hehe. and they all are talking about it in the middle of the park in front of guests ;P I was standing with a few of them going on about it in the emporium practically blocking guests having an open discussion about the ride since i'd been on it in california and could keep up with the conversation. it was a funny day

I rode today as well (3 times in fact)...

PROPERLY WARNED YE BE... THAR BE SPOILERS AHEAD... ONLY READ ON IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE CHANGES...

Almost immediately out of dispatch you see the new Davvy Jones effect- very very cool. It's projected onto a screen of fog and your boat passes right underneath and appears to disappear into it. You then see the familiar beach scene and the skeleton commanding the ship.

Next comes the drop, which seemed to me to be a whole lot darker than I remember. Unfortunately our friend the talking skull and crossbones is indeed gone. As you enter Bombardment Bay, the movie soundtrack is playing... a prefect fit if you ask me. Barbossa was being worked on while I was there as well, and the sound in that whole area needed to be turned up, but I'm sure that will be fixed. The new cannon effects are not all that different than I remember.

Next comes Captain Sparrow. The first time we see him, he's hiding out behind some dresses in the mayor dunking scene (the pirates are now asking the whereabouts of Jack Sparrow instead of the treasure). You encounter Jack again hiding in a barrel spying over at the treasure map that the drunken pirate with the dog is now holding. His last appearance is in the treasure room singing the attraction's familiar theme and reveling in all the gold. All three animatronics are absolutely astounding, but particularly the last one.

Everything else is more or less the same, just looking and sounding much cleaner and sharper. The women still chase the pirates, the burning city looked pretty much the same to me, that dog at the jail cell is still never going to move, and everyone still wants the redhead.

Overall I'd say it was a job well done. They freshened up a classic, but with great reverence to what made it classic in the first place. Those who are expecting a drastically different ride will be disappointed, because when all is said and done, this was a refurbishment NOT a re-do.

oh P.S. As far as soft-openings for tomorrow, there is still quite a bit of work to be done, especially in the unload area (as I understand, the PA system isn't even installed yet). I'm sure they're working around the clock tonight, but don't plan your day around it being open.

There are now air cannons in the bombardment scene. I got "hit" by a cannonball today. Pretty cool. The burning city has lots of new little flames and smoldering effects that weren't there previously, and the treasure room is very different. I was impressed, but there was clearly still alot of work to be done. I would be shocked -SHOCKED- if they ended up admitting ANY guests tomorrow.

Will there be fastpass cause Im kind of thinking that this may be a very popular attration now???

i sure hope not!!! fast pass would really slow it down, imo. i don't think fastpass helps ALL attractions - just a few. it certainly does NOTHING for shows like philhar, little mermaid, etc.

So if the skull & crossbones is gone before the drop, what gives you the safety speil?

That`s the big question - and one WDI and Ops are arguing over. The skull may still return for safety spiel reasons.

If the skull is gone does it say Dead men tell no tales anymore?

Lets fight to bring back the skull, the best part of the ride!

I agree. It may not have been as good as Disneyland's as everyone else says..but so what?

The skull and crossbones is an Icon of pirates. Just the fact that it represents the Jolly roger. It was always something I loved seeing as a young kid. Not to mention that it is honestly the first thing that pops into my mind when I think of Pirates of the caribbean.

If anything else..they could have improved it and gave it better dialouge.
