French Toast

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
I have a question....

I remember reading about this really great French Toast in one of the Birnbaum (s/b?) WDW books a few years ago. It was in a resturant in one of the WDW resorts....I wanna say it was the Poly..but, I could be wrong...and that is why I am asking.
Anywhoo...the frech toast was supposed to be the best on the planet..I guess they stuffed it with bananas, and sprinkled it with cinamon and other kinds of stuff... I remember reading about it ...and started to drool...LOL If anybody knows where on WDW property , and what the name of the french toast is...I would appreciate it! I might just plan my next trip around the french toast...LoL:hammer: :p ;)

Tonga Toast

I think what you are talking about is Tonga Toast . It is wonderful. You can find it at the Polynesian, at the Kona cafe's breakfast menu. :)

Yep, it's Tonga Toast!

Tonga Toast is a thick slice of sourdough bread, split on one side, stuffed with bananas and then cooked like french toast, and then coated with cinnamon sugar. So sweet you don't need syrup. It is definitely worth planning your trip around. We usually make a priority seating at the Kona Cafe for about an hour before Magic Kingdom opens, walk right into Kona Cafe, eat, and we are at the entrance to MK at opening. I have heard of people substituting strawberries for the bananas. It may cost more, but if you don't like bananas, that is a good alternative.

By the way, the eggs benedict and any of the other breakfasts at Kona are great as well. It is by far the best breakfast place in all of WDW. Not to be missed.

DMC - I was just looking at my "Cooking with Mickey" cookbook this morning and saw a recipe for this. It really is delicious. The cookbook is from 1987, but the recipe is still the same - just let me know if you'd like the recipe in case you want to try it beforehand!:)

That's a big 10-4. I was lured over there by the Birnbaum book, which did not warn that it is sweet, sweet, sweet. Maybe I should have read the description more carefully before dousing it with syrup. Wouldn't go for it every day, but yeah, worth having once.

Maybe my English Palate isn't as developed as some of you guys. Tonga toast sounds absolutely disgusting I never cease to be amazed at the junk I see Americans eating for breakfast ot through out the day come to think of it:animwink:

As another Brit I have to disagree - I think American breakfasts are much better that ours - much more variety and less grease! My husband was very sceptical about the concept of bacon, pancakes and maple syrup - until I cooked it for him. Now he's a convert!

Hopefully I'm just missing the irony in your comment!!

I think the Tonga Toast sounds fabulous and now I know about it I am going to try and fit it into our schedule!
