French Quarter or Riverside?

One more over here for POFQ! I've stayed there three times, and while I did enjoy walking over to POR for the occasional meal I loved the fun, Mardi Gras theming at POFQ, the small size that meant everything was nice and close together, and the beautiful pool area.

Thanks for your reply, we are now thinking about taking my in-laws (fun loving 70 somethings) so I think that the Mardi Gras theme would very much appeal to them!!!

We're POFQ fans, having stayed there multiple times. Check out www.portorleans.org/ . They post things going on at both resorts, many photos, and services listed. If you are booking there this site will give you lots of information for your family to view ahead of time.

My $0.02 is for POR for the theming and activities. As far as buses, I recommend making that 10 minute walk to POFQ to save yourself at least 45 minutes each way. We learned that after Day 2 of our stay at POR. Another option which I think is even better is Coronado Springs. I think it is the best Moderate resort of all. Their buses are some of the best on property.
Thanks, I'll have a look at Coronado Springs....I have to say the ease of travel to and from the Parks is a particular priority...

If ease of travel is the most important, definitely POFQ and Coronado Springs. When we stayed at POR, it only took a day and a half to realize to use POFQ when it was not a combined bus. Over a week, it save me at least an hour a day. Coronado buses are about the best there is. Never crowded, always running, and very little wait. It is also great for internal resort travel if you are way at the back. Just jump on the first bus and get off at the lobby.

Does each resort ave their own transportation or do they share between the two resorts? How long does it take to get to each park from the resorts? Just curious :)

No
The website portorleans.org has great information on transportation and how the buses pick up for theme parks & Disney Springs. They do share transportation. I'm staying there in September and my try walking over to FQ for the bus if necessary.

we stayed at the FQ a few years ago, & again this fall. only once do I recall the FQ bus picking up guests from RS.
I think both resorts share buses depending on the season or capacity. I could be wrong.
didn't seem to take long to get anywhere. 10-15 minutes tops.

If I remember correctly, it was mostly separate busing except for DtD I believe. Time wise it was much faster to use POFQ and just walk vs waiting for PORS. For us, it was not a matter of 10-15 minutes, it equated to at least 45-60 minutes each round trip.

I go every fall and usually stay about 2 weeks at POFQ(last year I stayed at POR). At peak times(mornings and park closing) they do not share a bus. During mid day it is hit or miss on whether or not they share. More often then not they do and it has always been that they pick up at POFQ first. Except for Disney Springs, then they pick up/drop off at POR first. Either way the bus sharing is not a big deal. Most other moderate resorts have 4-5 stops for just the one resort. I really do not know why people are saying to walk over to POFQ for the bus. I never had any issues with the buses at POR and my stop seemed to always be the last one to pick up/drop off. I almost always had a seat(except for the peak times, which I try to avoid). I would not stress about the buses. Just go with the flow and give yourself plenty of time to get to where you are going. Getting to Epcot is pretty fast, less then 10 min. MK is about 10-15 min, DHS about 15 and AK is about 15-20. Those resorts are in a great central location.

I love POR, has a great pool and food court. I've stayed there multiple times, always in the Mansion section. Back to the pools...Actually it has multiple pools, but the main pool with the waterside is a lot of fun. I have friends who prefer POFQ, due to its smaller size. The only reason I haven't tried POFQ is that I used to work in a Mardi Gras themed casino, and I would rather not be reminded of a former job while I'm on vacation. :p

My family and I have never stayed at Riverside, mostly because we don't see the need to. The Mardi Gras theming at POFQ is great, and it's smaller with only one bus stop, making it easier and quicker for transportation.

Btw, we also really like Coronado Springs. It's where we go if we want a change in resorts. It's a lot bigger, but the buses are easily accessible.

I travel with just my now 12 y/o granddaughter to disney a few times a year. We've stayed at both French Quarter and Riverside. I like FQ for it's small size. I like the pool area at POR with the pool, bathrooms, bar all together but depending on where your room is it can be more of a hike. but it does offer a bit more shaded areas than FQ imo. FQ sometimes shares a bus with POR but when they don't FQ has only one bus stop (plus). POR has the option of the royal rooms (fun if they're a big princess fan). I don't think you'll be disappointed with either place. You're choosing between two great resorts. Both resorts allow you to take the boat to disney springs.

I've only stayed at POFQ and loved how quiet it is and beautifully landscaped. It feels like an escape from the chaos of the parks and it always smells like beignets!
