Stay at Port Orleans but cancel the dining plan. Pay cash for your food and save a ton of money.
I whole-heartedly agree with the Captain.
The food plan makes you arrange your stay around meals rather than the other way 'round. Not fun for kids.
Your going mostly for the parks, not the food.
And are you really going to eat all those desserts?
Ohana, Sci-fi Cafe, Whispering Canyon Cafe, Primetime Cafe, Rose and Crown, BierGarten, Via Napoli.
These are the places you want to go for full dining, otherwise, you have no time for quick food or rides.

I'm sure others have plenty other suggestions, but these are what I've found to be very good with large selections.

I beleive the incentive this year is QS meal plan for moderates. That being the case, I don't believe you will be arranging meals over other itinerary plans.

I found the meal plan to be a great incentive if the OP can get it for free. They need to run the numbers to see if it works for them, or does a room discount makes more sense. All I can say is the last time we enjoyed a free meal plan, it was "magical". I can't justify paying for it, but it enhanced the enjoyment of our vacation. YMMV.

The so-called "free" Dining Plan is such a lousy deal for most guests unless your vacations center around eating.

There is nothing free about the plan. Disney is giving you the dining plan in lieu of a discount on the room rate. When the plan is offered Disney is in a position where they have to discount the room in same manner in order to fill it. The problem with the dining plan is that if you're looking for value or savings on your vacation, then you're essentially commited to eating all those meals to achieve that goal.

If you want a better deal...skip the plan. Instead get a discount on the room and just pay for your dining as you go. You're going to find that on same days you may not eat all of the meals or snacks that you would've been allocated with the plan. When you opt out of a meal or snack that's even more savings in your wallet.

Beyond that your body will thank you too. When your dining on the plan we as consumers have the tendency to eat everything or essentially overweight. If the plan includes desert you'll probably get it and eat it even if you don't crave or need it. By skipping the dining plan you'll consume viewer calories and likely gain less weight while on vacation. If you're lucky you'll loose some with all the walking you're doing. When you return home this point alone will make you feel better about yourself.

As for the room upgrade I would always do it if the incremental cost is at a point where you think you're getting a good deal. Beach Club is a big upgrade in property quality.

I disagree.... don't you know that calories don't count on vacation :hilarious::hilarious:

I'm a big eater who's on a budget, and buying regular quick service meals usually leaves me hungry afterward. I wish we would have bought the dining plan so we could have eaten larger meals at the better table service restaurants/buffets, but we paid for our hotel with airline miles so couldn't get the meal plan. We did a few table service meals and always felt guilty about it. I would have preferred to pay for a dining plan ahead of time and then be able to eat whatever I wanted on vacation. And to clarify, I'm not a glutton. I'm actually a petite woman with a large appetite.
