Fort Wilderness

Has anyone here ever camped out at Fort Wilderness for the duration of their trip? Im going alone next time, and love to camp, so Ive decided to do it this way. Its cheap, but thats not what im really worried about. Can you have campfires? are there a lot of guests in that area? It sounds like a real blast to me, other peiople think its nuts, but, to each their own I guess. I think sleeping under the stars after a long day would be great. Of course, this will be in september, or a fall/spring month, so heat wont be to much of a worry. I wouldnt even bring a tent if the rain werent a concern. Anyone have any feelings on this?

Ya I camped there we took a pop-up but what we saw of the tent sites the seemed opened and not congested. I dont know about fires when we went there was a drought but there is a small stove there. Hope that helps if you need anything else just ask.

When i first moved to Orlando 3 years ago, I lived in a tent at the now defunct KOA campground for 4 weeks in September (2000). I loved it. it was quite and adventure. I wish it could have been Ft. Wilderness but I was on a tight budget until I got a job.

That sounds pretty cool, I did something similar when I moved to Vegas a year or so ago.

Thanks for the info both of ya's. I think it will be a decent adventure. Itll be interesting to say the least.

My family and I went camping at WDW a few years ago. I loved it. We rented bikes and golf carts to commute around the campgrounds and rented a pop up. My only complaint was the red/orange gravel around the campsite (right outside the cement area). When it rains, that area is really nasty!

You are not allowed to have campfires at FW. They have a nightly campfire with Chip and Dale, but no fires are allowed at campsites.

No campfires!? What's the point in going, then? I think that the campfire at the end of the night is the best part of camping. Snuggling up with your significant other and making smores!!! I love a good campfire...Now I know I will never go to FW!!!

I agree:mad:

But Disney has a good point....the slighest out of control fire could damage the whole resort....or worse...injure and kill people...

park some fold-up chairs near the stove/grill and hook that up....

hey its ghetto....but at least you can make smores:slurp:

As far as campfires go, every night they have a huge campfire and show Disney movies. It is a lot of fun. Chip and Dale show up and meet all the kids (and adult kids too). They sell the makings for smores there, but you can also bring your own. Another thing that is so cool about Fort Wilderness is that they have peacocks roaoming freely all over the campground. That is pretty wild. Something I can say I never seen at any other campground. It is just an amazing campground, but what do you expect from Disney, right?

Oh yeah the peacocks. I remember last time we were there one of them went running down the road chasing a Ford Explorer. I don't know what it would have done had it been able to catch it. It was pretty funny though.

About 10 years ago, my family and another stayed in Fort Wilderness in two side-by-side campsites and we had the time of our lives. We stayed for 7 days and weren't the least bit disappointed by any of it. I don't recall whether or not campfires on each site are permitted, but I do know that you've got a fair amount of isolation from the other guests, enough so that they're not a disturbance or annoyance. Fort Wilderness has a fantastic atmosphere to it, and has so much going for it like the Hoop-Dee-Doo, the campfire movies, the swimming pools, shops, etc..etc..etc.. It's definitely worth your while to give it a try.
