My DW, DS, and myself, along with some friends are thinking about camping there this October. Money being one reason. I have some friends who have stayed there before but they weren't much help. Any info you guys can give me, or some recent photos would be great. I understand some of the trees have been removed. How has that effected the camping?

I have not been since 2004 but I LOVE FW..It is one of my favorite places.

We went in December and stayed in our van..LOL..it was not bad at all...the comfort stations are right there and were always nice and clean..they can get crowded in the mornings but we always get up really early so usually had it too ourselves.

We drive everywhere but the bus service is also right there and there were plenty of buses so I do not think you had to wait long for them.

There is so much to do there...campfire singalong and movie, petting zoo,Hoop Dee Doo,trails and horseback riding, boating and fishing and just loads of stuff.

It is a beautiful place and at night it was nice and quiet and we would sit out by our site or on the beach and look at the stars or watch the water parade.

I could go on and on but you get the idea.

As long as you do not mind sharing a bathroom with others and being outdoors you will not have a problem...I am so not an outdoorsy person but I Love being there and would stay there again and again..:)

Thanks! I see that is where you are staying next trip. Let me know how it goes. I grew up camping, and I love the outdoors, so it is not a big deal to me. I am used to tent camping, but my wife will not stay in a tent, so we bought a pop-up a few months ago. We have only used it twice, but she loved it. Now she is open to talking about FW. In the past it was no way.

this is true. You don't have any pics from your trip do you? We were there/offsite, about that time last year, and will be again this year.

I do have some pictures from Fort Wilderness fairly recently, like within the last five years, but that's about it. Most of what I have is the cabins area as thats where we were. Giveme a while and I'll be more then happy to post them. FW is my favorite resort, I went there every year for Christmas when Iwas really little and we could afford it. Theres a lot of recreation, a petting zoo, peacocks, golf carts, a beach, and all sorts of beautiful scenery as well as two trading post gift shops

I read smoewhere that the carts ae like $50 a day, that is a little much for me. we are camping to save money. But the bike idea might work.

I have heard that you need to rent a golf cart to get around because it is so big, is this true?

Golf carts are a nice convience but you don't need one. The buses run all the time. I stayed there every year as a kid and again last year with kids as young as 4 and had no problems without the cart. If your planning on spending most of your time in the parks then it's kinda a waste of money.

My last trip was October 06 and I did not see any trees missing or clearing any trees out. There is a very nice tent area and by all means bring a bicycle to get around. Their are several bike racks to park in, just bring a good lock and chain to secure them. The exercise trail between FW and the WL is a great bike ride. Have a great time!! Try this site for FW info: [URL="http://fly.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/

You are never too far from the bus service so you may not need a cart if you can walk easily. It really is a great way to save money on accomadations and you get all the benefits of regular resort guests. Including free parking at the parks if your schedule is tight. The busse are frequent and there is a boat to the MK. Very nice and peaceful campground. A great place after a long day. Highly recommended.

So many of my Disney memories take place at Fort Wilderness. My family stayed there five times between 1995 and 2000 (when we sold the pop-up camper).

If you do finally decide to stay there, get a copy of the campground's map, do a little research, and request a loop close to a trading post. Also, when you make the reservation, request the spot closest to the comfort station.

Really the only complaint I can make about this otherwise perfect campground is that the fill around the sites (I think its ground-up sea shells) gets wet from rain, it tracks worse than anything I've ever seen! Be sure to bring a good broom and maybe a small vacuum to keep your camper clean.

Oh, and don't forget to check out the Lawn Mower Tree after enjoying breakfast at Trail's End.

You might want to stay away from the CS's as sometimes the doors slam contantly as people go in and out. Hopefully they have fixed that problem. My only complaint with FW was that noise (restroom doors slaming shut) early in the morning. Very early. Some people are up by 5:30 or so. :dazzle:
