Fort Wilderness Cabins

I've always wanted to stay at one of these but have been reluctant due to the size of the campground. How big a mistake would it be to rent a cabin and NOT have a golf cart to get around?

Well, that would depend on if you were going to have a car. With the cabins you have a driveway right at your door and could then drive up to the outpost to catch a bus to most of parks if you wish. There are internal buses that go around the campground if you need to get to the marina to catch the launch to the MK if you don't want to walk. A lot of it will depend on what you consider a lot of walking. If you have small children that have a tendency to fall asleep during transport I would suggest taking the inter buses from the outpost. You are not allowed to park a motor vehicle at the Meadows Trading post or at the Settlement outpost. Having stayed on the 100 loop of the campsites I can vouch that there are internal buses running to and from the Settlement area very frequently. If you have not done so, All Ears.Net under WDW Accommodations has a very nice slide show of the campground/cabins and the last slide is a map of the campground. Hope this helps.

No car and no kids. In fact, probably just me alone or at most 1 other adult. I'm not adverse to walking, I mean, you can't be if you're going to WDW, but I couldn't get a fix on how much more walking there would be to get to the buses that go to the parks if you didn't use the internal bus. Thanks.

I was just watching the new youtube video posted by PopSong1 as he toured Fort Wilderness... I was in shock how big it is... I was thinking of staying there and it made me change my mind instantly! Maybe it will give you an idea as well how big it is.

We're waiting until the boys get a bit older due to the size of the resort. I want to stay there for sure, but I'm not sure if I'd rent a golf cart. It's expensive!:)

We stayed at the Cabins in 2010 and I said I wouldn't stay there again without a golf cart rental. But.....it isn't horrible without one. The inner buses were very quick and we never had to wait long to get to the boat dock or the main bus stop. Just keep in mind that it adds to your travel time to get to the parks. We missed our reservations one night not realizing how long it would take. The worst part was my son wanted to go to the main pool once a day and it was a fairly long walk from our cabin. When planning our next trip I asked if anyone wanted to go back to the Cabins no one said yes but thats our family. You may love it. You've got to try it as least once.

Depending on where your cabin is located in a loop, you may not have to walk too far to the bus stops. If walking gets to be an issue, see if a cart is available. Maybe rent a cart for a day or two.
