Fort Langhorn Escape Tunnel

Injury is due to lack of upkeep or neglect: Lawsuit warranted
Injury due to your own actions: Frivolous Lawsuit

Maybe they decided there was an issue that was bigger than they wanted to deal with that made it unsafe so they closed it. Of course I'm sure most people would say "don't close it, fix it." I agree it is part of the continued "little problems" that build into a larger experience, but unfortunately they don't see the dollars and "sense" in fixing it.

IMHO.

I hate to sound like a broken record here but why is the assumption that this is permanent and was done for any reason other than something being in need of repair in the tunnel? It certainly seems to me that say if there was a electrical issue that need correcting or there was damage to the "rock" formations inside, they'd want to close just the tunnel to repair it vs. the entire island. To me that's the beauty of TSI vs. other attractions... if something is in need of repair the entire thing doesn't have to be shutdown. Maybe I missed a post in here somewhere that said it was permanent but it sure seems that thus far it's just been people saying it's closed currently with no reason provided.

Well, because the "door" that's been put into the entrance is both themed appropriately and screwed in at the "hinges."

This implies a longer-term situation. Sure, it can be a repair rather than a closure. But it's not because of bad weather, certainly.
Sure ok I won't disagree with that... but maybe it's not 100% permanent. Here's hoping. I just would prefer to assume that since everything else is untouched, this isn't a sign of things to come. Sure, I'm positive someone could and has gotten hurt or a kid has gotten away from their parents and gotten lost in there and any of that could be reasons for closure but who knows, maybe they could be adding an effect or fixing a problem. Here's hoping!

Maybe....even though the door is screwed to the frame, it is still just a temporary situation. If it wasn't screwed to the frame, and someone's kid got through it and injured themselves on whatever needs fixin', that would be cause for a lawsuit. That's what I'm hopin'!

I think the work on the escape tunnel will finish together with the refurbishment of Aunt Polly's.

outside playing, bath hating, fishing all the time boy...

Wow, you just described my 7 year old Daughter. She likes TSI for "goin' explorin'" which I've decoded as "I'm gonna get dirty."

If they took the Tom Sawyer story away from the island, the riverboat narration would also need redone. Perhaps just omit that part but please leave the rest alone. We love when the crewman sings out the water depths.

Does anyone remember what the paintbrush "prize" was?

Divorce settlement. But, that's a deeply guarded Disney secret. Word is just now getting out through shows like Once Upon a Time.
Now that made me laugh.

Now, I just joined this forum, I saw rumors floating around, and even heard rumors floating around while last visiting WDW over the tunnels, and some underground and/or low ground rides and attractions like Injun Joe's Cave and the Lost Mine on TSI; I asked around and found two differnet CMs one of them who was on TSI at the time about the closer {this was back in January of this year} And was told simply "Water table troubles" I'm guessing she was right, because the last time I went through the Mine my feet got wet, and I do not think it was a spilled water bottle either. the other CM I asked had no idea it was closing.

So, as far as I know, the closure is tempoary. But for how long ? Disney Weather is never constantly bright and sunny.

Thanks for the update. Maybe there is hope for a return of the Escape Tunnel.

I wish I had the chance to experience Aunt Polly's just once in my life. I am actually embarrassed to say I didn't because unfortunately there isn't a reason like "I was never there when it was open" to use in this case. Further embarrassment comes when admitting that this last trip in March was the very first time I've ever been on TSI.

All the trips with my parents when I was little and we never ventured over... and as such the trips I took as an adult it just wasn't on the list of things to do because frankly I had no idea what it was. It was my DH who three trips ago said we had to check it out, simply because we never had and then for whatever reason it still didn't happen.

This last trip, the only reason it did was because I walked away to get something and he and DS7 were chatting together. I came back and DH said "We've decided we're going to hop on a raft and check out the island next." Until that moment I had pretty much been the one making the "what next" decisions on every trip. After experiencing TSI (and seeing DS7 not only love it but not want to leave after over an hour) I have promised them both that going forward, they get to make the decisions a bit more often! :D

That is actually an excellent point. That tunnel goes down quite a way and I could very much see the water table being an issue. Now, that said, when we were there in March it was open (and your experience was in January) but that's not too surprising as that sort of thing could/would certainly change. The only thing that I have in the back of my head that tells me someone is bound to call BS on this being the issue is the island technically shouldn't be impacted by the water table. It's manmade and there isn't water/land beneath it but rather storage and tunnels. In fact I saw a year or so ago when they drained the rivers of America to work on the Riverboat track and you can see the "island" is really a building surrounded by water. I suppose rain etc. could still impact it though... who knows!

I sure hope it is Water Table and not Liability.

Here is the latest response from DVC Member Services on this subject:

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

We appreciate your reply. After researching further, there is no
official word if the Fort Langhorne Escape Tunnel is closed for
refurbishment or if it is closed indefinitely.

The whole "water table" thing does sound a bit... Suspicious. But there's still a lot of dirt, etc. on top of that hump and the way it's been raining lately... It adds a certain amount of plausibility to the story, if perhaps the terminology isn't quite right (though works in principle just the same).

Who knows. I sure hope it comes back, it's not a sign of things to come, etc. etc.

I was in Injun Joe's Cave as recently as end of March and while I vaguely recall dampness, I can't say for sure either way. Maybe someone that's going there soon can confirm if the floor's wet in there. It shouldn't be, unless a) there's a "water table problem" or b) there's another drainage issue where rain isn't getting out. Either way, if there's infrastructure under there - it's a bad thing.
