Forget the parks... I have just as much fun riding the monorail, going to Downtown Disney and visiting the resorts. Heck, I enjoy renting a water mouse from OKW and cruising the Disney water ways!

What about you?

So many people spend so much time rushing to the parks, getting in early and collecting fast passes, planning out where every last second they will be standing in which ride in which park. There is so much to enjoy outside the rides, and even outside the parks themselves.

It's too bad Disney is not capitalizing on this. I understand it doesn't really bring in the revenue from merchandise or food that the parks do, but I think that it would draw in a lot more people who otherwise would not enjoy their time in the park if they had other things to do that would be worth a trip.

Oh man, just chillin at the Yacht and Beach Club pool is the best! And then you could take a stroll around the boardwalk! I could do it all day, every day!

Hanging out at the Yacht Club pool and then heading to the Spa at Saratoga Springs for a couples massage. I didn't think I'd like not going to a park, but it was awesome!

I think I love dining the most. It's so nice to spend an afternoon at Magic Kingdom, and then head to Narcoosee's to have a wonderful dinner by the lagoon (at sunset).

California Grille, Boma.... I'm getting hungry now.

When we have stayed a YC, we plan a specific non-park day. We get up whenever, go over to BW and rent a surrey, then spend the rest of the time around the pool, shopping, playing miniature golf, etc. Then in the evening, we'll head to DTD and an evening at the Adventurer's Club. Factor in meals, and it's still a busy, but not hectic, day.

Oh, it's also nice to get an afternoon nap in along the way. It really recharges the batteries for another day at the parks.

I spent one year with friends (1999) running around like crazy to the parks early morning till evening and will never run my vacation like that again. Our resort has lots to do (Boardwalk) we can go to the pool, walk the grounds, rent a surrey, and so much more. The resort is our favorite part of the stay. This has made the vacation so much more relaxful and enjoyable. The memories of my 1999 vacation are just a blur of hurrying.

Any vacation over 5 days has a scheduled "hotel pool fun" day. We hang at the pool, rent a water mouse, play volleyball, sleep in, and at night we have dinner at ESPN Club or DTD then shop and head to Fantasia Golf and shoot 18 holes in the cool of the evening.

We've spent long weekends AKL and the YC, never set foot inside of a park.
Spent a lot of time at the Boardwalk.
Closing the Adventurers Club and not being able to do much more than hang out at the pool the next day.
Playing a lot of golf, Disney has some of the best golf around.
My wife has done the Spa's.
Personally I think the parks get a little stale when visiting 4-6 times a year

There's room for both; we do some half days and get to visit the parks early, come back for lunch, then whatever.

Must be nice...I never really get that opportunity! But I do often spend at least a day eating and playing on the boardwalk. No trip to the World is really complete without a good treat at Beaches and Cream...

I've visited WDW a good amount of times and just can't pull myself away from the parks for long. I've stayed at at least 10 of the resorts and I visit AKL every time (b/c of Boma) so I just don't want to "waste any time" outside of the parks. Maybe if I ever had the chance to go for longer than one week it'd be something I would do - but I hate being away from work that long.

Any week long vacation I plan at least 1 or 2 days for the resort/DTD.

My typically vacation is be in the park when it opens and close it down. Then wander off to DTD. Long, fun days.

This last Christmas I went for my first holiday to see all the special events. I took my older sister who had never been to WDW. She has a really bad back so lots of walking can be hard for her. I was able to see the parks in a different way. I did not open or close them. We saw what we wanted to, had a great time and I never felt rushed. I should take more trips like this!! :D

So true! The parks are the major draw for most (if not all) guests at WDW. But once you've been there a few times you give yourself the opportunit to enjoy everything else that WDW has to offer.

My friend went down with his kids several years ago and never stepped into the parks. They road the monorail and went to Downtown Disney. They shopped and swam for 3 days.
