For those of you driving to WDW in the next few days...

For anyone that's driving to WDW in the next few days, be advised that 95 South is one solid traffic jam from somewhere in South Carolina straight down through Florida (according to reports from north-bound travellers). I started the day about midway through North Carolina and I just now stopped in South Carolina about 10 miles north of the Georgia border. It's been one continuous traffic jam the entire day, and apparently it's been this way for the past few days. I ended up stopping for the night much earlier than anticipated; in fact, I was planning on makinig it to Orlando at about 8:00 this evening. I figure if I get a super-early start tomorrow morning, I might have a decent chance.

So, take-home point, if your travel plans include 95 South in the next few days, consider alternate routes. For the record, 95 North didn't look bad at all.

Yikes - glad we're not driving there now. Did you try getting off the highway at all?

You're not too far from my place. So, howdy neighbor (for the night)!

Anyway, sorry about your troubles. If the traffic is clear tomorrow you should be home in 3 to 4 hours. It won't be that bad of a trip.

Here's hoping tomorrow goes better for you!

I kept expecting it to clear--and it did at intervals, then it clogged back up again a few miles later. I figured it was an accident or construction or something. I finally thought to ask a clerk at a gas station about the traffic situation and they informed me that it went all the way through FL. If conditions aren't improved tomorrow morning, I'm going to try the back roads, such as they are.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked Mapquest and it doesn't look like we're going in on 95 but I bet there will be spill over from people looking for alt routes.

So what was the cause...was it just a heavy influx of people heading south or construction along the way? We're heading down in two weeks. :veryconfu

Don't be surprised if toward the end of March, it gets crowded going North. I've seen I-75 do this many time through Georgia up to Atlanta. My guess is that lots of folks head to Florida after Christmas, then head North at the end of March. After spending last week in Illinois frozen, I understand why they go south!

We came home on the 26th from NJ and traffic was horrible from DC through to FL.

I think it's all the winter breakers headed to sunny FLA.

Even in the non-construction areas stop and go.

I say come on down and leave some money!!!

FLY to WDW

IMO flying to WDW is the BEST
way to go if you can afford it!
We drove to the park once!

After 15 hours on the road :dazzle:
Sounds like the Florida road
project have migrated two
states north these days :veryconfu

Bad traffic

And for those on Disney World, traffic is so bad. Between Swan and Dolphin and Epcot Center Drive, it took me 20 minutes, and thats a 5 minute drive.

And tonight can be even worst. if 4th of July it took me 1 hour to get out. I am in fear of today. So heads up to everybody going in and out of Disney!!!

535 and 192 have been clogged nearly non-stop. I have to run up to the Magic Kingdom area to take care of a few things, and I'm not looking forward to it.

Driving tip for traffic congestion

If your driving around the I-4 tourist corridor you can always check www.traffic.com they have live (depending on your refresh choices) real time traffic reports. You can also register with the service to send you text messages or phone calls when certain thresholds are met in your designated drive choices. I don't mean to sound like a commercial for the site, but this site has saved me many a headache driving home from work when traffic at Universal and Disney has become unbearable. For those with web enabled phones tbo.com has set up a link to the site via the m.tbo.com website. Hope this helps eliminate some of the frustrations of driving around the parks. Have a Happy New Year!

Still bad on 95 north

Hi everyone, I am heading down to WDW on 95 south, and we stopped for the night in Savannah. Several people are complaining about the traffic on 95 n from Jacksonville and Up. We noticed heavy traffic as far up as NC/SC border. It is running smoothly but heavy.

Hotel Person said it has been a problem for a while.

Just a little FYI :)
