Hello.

I just got called and told my Oral Board is next week. My first oral board interview for an agency. I officially graduate from the academy on the 26th, but I've been applying long before my graduation date.

Any tips for the Oral Board anyone can give me? I'm rather petrified at the moment.:lookaroun

If by oral board, you mean job interview...just be yourself, and be honest.

If it's something specific to the police academy you are attending, then those requirements vary by state.

At any rate, from someone who gets to tell cops where to go, good luck!

Ah, the FDLE got them another one.(J/K):lookaroun First off, Congratulations on getting through the Academy, what a pleasure these things are. There really is nothing much that one can do in preparation for one of these things, as each agency has a totally different way of doing them. Get plenty of rest the night before, relax and be yourself and whatever you do, make sure you wear a suit and tie for this thing. The first thing they will be looking for is how you present yourself. Remember the old saying about only getting one chance to make a first impression. During these interviews is not the time to worry and second guess your answers, you will have plenty of time for this later. Speak with presence and authority, now is not the time to be timid or shy, and when it's over, shake their hands and thank them for their time.

By the way, what agencies have you applied with?

Thanks for the well wishes. Yes, I went out and bought 2 new suits when I started the academy... I want every advantage I possibly can!

So far I've put in applications with 5 agencies: Orlando, Orange County, Ocala, Casselberry and University of South Florida.

Most other agencies in Central Florida either aren't hiring or they require you to have your certification before applying.

Graduation is on the 26th. State Exam on the 28th... and then my vacation is on the 30th. I've been going to the night class at the academy since February... so close to the end!

I have plenty of contacts with Orange County. Let me know if you need any help.

I appreciate the offer, but Orange County has already sent me the (un)happy denial. I can't reapply with them until June/July of 2010.

No worries.. I'm an inexperienced cadet fresh out of the academy with only an associate's degree. Not exactly the ideal candidate.

Uphill battle :)

Had my interview board yesterday. It was... terrifying.

But... I guess I impressed someone because I got a call this morning to move onto the next step. :sohappy:

Hey, good luck with everything. I hope it all works out for you. Honestly, I used to live in an area that Orange County had jurisdiction over and I never liked them. But I have personal reasons for that.

Seriously, though, let us know how it all turns out. As the grandson of a former Detective, I'm always happy to see someone make it into the Law Enforcement field.
