Has anyone been to EPCOT for the Food and Wine Festival on the first day of the Festival?

Do they do anything special? Any special character appearances?

And I'm just wondering what to expect crowd-wise. I'm hoping because it's on a Friday that it won't be as bad as going during a weekend. Whadda ya think?

Nothing really happens. There is generally a bit of an opening ceremony, but it isnt always available to guests (sometimes occurs pre-opening).

Crowd wise I dont believe it really makes a huge difference that its opening day. Epcot does get busier with the festival, but it isnt reallyu confined to the opening day.

Have a graet time! :)

Thanks!
I was just worried that the crowds would be heavy(with locals); I've heard the weekends can get extremely busy.
After doing a little more research I discovered it Epcot's EMH (evening) so maybe the non-resort folks will wait to go another day.

I have to say I have been there for the first day before and if you get there during the day it is not to bad........BUT if you should up later in the day you will see a HUGE influx of guest coming in. We went around 4pm and it was packed at the entrance. But it is always a good time!

All I can say is, get the cabbage rolls from the Poland kiosk as soon as possible, because they go quick.

Ignore the pierogi, they taste store bought every year...

I agree about the Cabbage Roll (Golabki's),YUMMY!!!!
I disagree about the Pierogi...YUMMY, also!!! I love the Sauerkraut they put on the keilbasa also. It's much better than what I am used to. Even though I am Polish!

I was there on opening day last year and they seemed a bit unprepared, or some of the CM's did. Now, not to knock the CM's, most said they were seasonal and had just started and or came from another park to pick up hours and weren't used to the F&W Fest, but I honestly had to help them tap a few kegs! Being a former Anheuser Busch employee (Back when it was American owned), I felt it was my duty to help the CM's and the other thirsty guests. In return, the CM's gave me a high five and poured me cold beer which I paid for.

The good things about going on the first day:
- It's not usually crowded until the evening when general WDW guests head to Epcot like they do daily for the fireworks.
- They haven't run out of cups yet
- The CM's aren't tired of the drunks yet
- Never a wait for the Sam Adams Beer School

The Bad things about going on the first day:
- It's still hot
- not everything is going at 100%
- it's really freaking hot

I'll be there again on day one this year! I can't wait!

I guess we'll see you there!

I guess I'll see you both there. My wife and I are going the first weekend as well. We love the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies! We've gone several times to EPCOT during this time but have never really partook in the festival. But last year we did and we got hooked. We can't wait to do it this year.
