Food to pack?

I'll be staying in a SS 1-bedroom villa this december. 4 college girls. We're looking to save money, and as we have a kitchenette, we want to bring food for breakfast/late night snacks.

So, what are your suggestions? I've never packed food for a plane trip (flying from Detroit to Orlando, so about 4 hours in the air), so I really don't know what's a good idea to bring and what isn't.

So far I figure a box or two of cereal, pop tarts, maybe something like ramen noodles we can heat up. Maybe a can of ravioli or something?

I'm assuming things like fruit are out of the question, with the possibility of them getting smashed and such.

Thanks!

We are going to Disney in a little less than 2 weeks and I just placed my order with gardengrocer.com. They deliver right to the hotel and the prices of the food were reasonable, best yet I don't have to pack all this food (and diapers) and we can have refridgerated stuff on hand. We ordered snacks like granola bars, pretzels and goldfish crackers also smoothies and cereal bars for breakfast, cheese with crackers for late night snack and Mt Dew for my addicted husband. But they have a little bit of everything.

I think packing things in a suitcase is fine. What airline? Most are now charging and extra bag fee so be sure to split that cost or factor it in when dividing the cost for groceries.

I like peanut butter crackers, found some at Walmart for 97 cents a pack (I think there were 8 to a pack, maybe 6?) I would be tempted to pack stuff for a pb&j, even bread. You can pack popcorn, pop tarts, cereal (buy milk at the resort shop or go to FW or Boardwalk and shop for things there at the small but expensive grocery stores)) raisans (sp?) are good too or dried fruit, fruit snacks (my youngest DD's favorite) a bag or two of powered doughnuts would go nice too if you have a hard sided suitcase, pre packaged muffins, cookies, small containers of applesauce....hmmmm.... I think it is past my dinner time, I'm getting hungry! :slurp:

Have fun!

You can always ship something to yourselves at SS, and save yourself packing problems and maybe even some money. If you like coffee make sure to ship what you like along with a few extra filters, if you have all your group that like to drink coffee, the last ones up wouldn't get any. Just make sure that the package is addressed to the person who's name is on the reservation.

Yeah, we're probably not going to ship something down, as that would be just the same as packing it, but cost extra. I really think if we share our suitcases, we can manage to fit a bit of food in one. I looked at gardengrocer, and I'll show it to them. If they find juice and stuff like that that they want, we might do it ($10 a person wouldn't be too awful).

Are you a Sam's Club member or know anyone who is?

Sam's Club has Danish rolls in a case that are individually wrapped and there are differant flavors ie Cream cheese, Raspberry, etc.

I think there are like 24 in a box. Easy to pack in a suitcase and they are great as a breakfast with milk that can be bought on property.

These will save you lots of $$$

We always pack a case of water, you can get a 32 pack for like $5 which is .16 a bottle, compared to the $2.50 you pay at Disney, for a savings of $75 if you drink all the water... We each just bring a backpack and carry a like 4 bottles and then we don't buy any other drinks except for a mug for the food court so my husband can get his morning coffee fix and I can get my nightly soda fix. We have also brought: pop tarts, 100 calorie snack packs, fruit snacks, and probably more I can't think of...
