Food Quality in Disney

I just returned from a trip from Disney just this week. Is it just me, or has the food quality just become terrible. The food at the hotels are pretty good, but at the parks are just getting ridiculous. The food used to be pretty good, but I can't ever remember having a phenomenal meal. It seems like every food item is getting smaller, more expensive, and they use cheap ingredients. We went to The Pinocchio Village Haus and the pizza sauce was terrible. My father said he will never eat there again. Sometimes the portions are so small for what you pay. We got some puny fish at Harry Ramsden's Fish and Chips in Epcot, although I went back and the portions were huge. Does anyone else think that the park's food is getting worse?

I don't think it's gotten any worse, I think this is maybe a case of time sweetening your memories. The food is still the same mediocre fare, but you don't remember it as so.

I eat at the parks all the time and have for years. I think the quality has improved drastically over the years I have been going. There are some things I think they still need to work on (Pizza) but for the most part I think the food is great when you consider the number of people they serve and the fact that it is a theme park.

There is some really great Disney fast food out there. The Tusker House at AK is a great example. I have had some better meals there than many full service restaurants off property.

I've never been disappointed with the counter service meals, but some are better than others. Maintaining quality at that volume is pretty impressive.

Get the meal plan and it tastes even better because you don't think about the $20 bill that just evaporated.

I think that you just have to find the right place to eat. Yes the pizza is horrible, but its not so bad at certain locations *our resort had great pizza*. Also, I agree with some fast food stops being better than sit downs. Flame Tree BBQ is my absolute favorite and I would eat there everyday of my trip if I could. But overall I would say it is just where you go to eat, some are good and some are bad.

The only place I really didn't care for was the Restaurant in Italy. I thought the food was just so so. The server was snobby AND he was the only one who charged us for cappuccinos at our meal (we did the dining plan).
We were ther for an entire week.

We came to a consensus that we'd never eat there agin.

But that was really the only place that I thought the food was bad.

Just remember it's a theme park.

I think the food is of decent quality, definately better then most theme parks I have been to. Flame Tree BBQ is excellent, however I agree that the pizza isn't the greatest. Their burgers and chicken sandwiches are pretty decent too.

Overall, I think Disney has very high quality CS food. However, there are some hit or miss things. PIZZA IS ALWAYS A BAD IDEA AT THE PARKS! I think it is just a fact of nature, now. (I enjoy that, though, in that pizza is perhaps the easiest thing to get outside WDW). The burgers, however, I think are very good. Also, I think Epcot has some good options (UK Fish & Chips, Yakitori House, Seasons, etc.). I also think it depends on perspective. If you compare Disney to small shops you find in the city, you will be disappointed. The Lotus Blossom Cafe is not as good as a local place I've got here in Nashville IMHO. However, Lotus Blossum is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than I would expect at ANY theme park (and at about the same cost of any theme park). I do think the OP is comparing apples to apples (old vs. current Disney), but I think Disney does get hit with poor comparisons some times. It is a good value quality:price for theme park food, but there are exceptions.

I would have to disagree, overall the quality and variety has improved drastically.Sure there could be some things I wouldn't order again, a pizza could be horrible, I know I will never order a burger at Blizzard beach ever again as it was the worst I've had in my life( like rubber),but years ago all you could get was burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, all pretty mediocre. Now there's all sorts of options of things to get throughout the parks.as far as prices it's always going to be expensive to eat at theme parks and sporting events, close to $10 for counter service but in my opinion the quantity and quality are fair for the price.Of all the park chains I've been to Anheiser Busch parks have the best food in all aspects.

ITA with everyone who has said that the pizza at WDW is fantastically awful... I find it amazing how consistently they are able to screw it up!!

I also agree that the food at the water parks is similarly crappy. And I am consistently underwhelmed by the food at MGM (both table service and counter service).

That being said, part of my love for WDW comes from my love for the food!!! We tend to have a big breakfast, a light (or no) lunch and then a nice dinner while we're there, so I don't tend to hit counter service eateries much. The ones that we have hit tend to be in Epcot where I find the food is better overall.

Plus, I'm totally a sucker for the chicken strips at WDW and the fixins bar at Pecos Bill... :slurp:

We were at WDW in February and ate at:

Columbia Harbor House - excellent clam chowder and the tuna salad sandwich on toasted whole grain bread was to die for! :)

Aloha Isle - Dole Whip! :sohappy: What more can I say?

Casey's Corner - their 1/4 lb hot dog was more than I could finish and the french fries were great, but got cold too fast because we were sitting outside. (The fries getting cold is my only complaint on the food BTW)

All Star Sports Resort - one of the BEST cheese pizzas we've had in a long time. Granted we ordered it at 11 pm and it was one of the last ones they were making, but I've heard other good things about the pizzas at the All Stars Resorts from other family members who were there during Hurricane Charley! We ordered a large for us 3 adults and couldn't finish it. :(

I don't expect gourmet food at a counter service restaurant,if you do- you will be a little disappointed. Most food is average with some exceptions above or below. I have found that although the same food is served in most different locations the quality can vary greatly. Most Asian food is good as well as most deserts. Portions change with the shifts and overall I think they are above average sized-the prices are high but at least you are full at the end of the meal. Most reviews seem true to my taste so if a restaurant rates high-generally I will like it also. I agree with everyone, their pizza is trash, some of the min ones aren't that bad but the big full sized pizzas are terrible.

I don't think that counter service food has gotten worse in quality...it probably as good as it ever has been. The selection has improved drastically....years ago, you had 3 choices...hot dog, hamburger and chicken fingers....that was it.

Pizza

While the pizza now is not excellent, I would say it is about equal to most national chains. Now back in the 80's the pizza was terrible. In general over the last 15 - 20 years I have seen a steady improvement in the quality of food, especially in the counter service area.

food quality

I agree I just posted above under the good and the bad about some of our food experiences .We were at Disney March 17-23 2006. I was unhappy with some of the food we purchased also.
