Food Price Increases

From the site that shall not be named it appears that WDW digital menus have shown major price increases including 12.50 for a Turkey Leg and 20 dollars for a hamburger. Is Disneyland next? Is this a smart move considering many people have leas disposable income?

If true, remarkably tone deaf.

But then, this is modern Disney we're talking about.

But then, by the end of April, we should have many folks getting full unemployment, or even more than they were making.

Many essential workers are getting more hours/overtime, and/or bonus pay.

Plus the Stimulus Checks, $1,200 per adult, $500 for kids under 17, for the vast majority.

Also factor in the less spending while staying at home. Lower Gas prices, etc.

Seems like a lot of folks will have plenty of money to spend, plus will want to get out of the house, when allowed.

Not sure where all the doom and gloom is coming from.

Yes, some folks are getting hurt, as are many businesses.

But then many steps have been taken to try and offset the pain.

Disneyland will reopen, and it will find the price points that help drive visitors back to the parks.

If anyone is seeing some menu boards being tested, well, that is what they are, tests. Disney is not even close to knowing what their price points will be.

Most people I know are quite fearful of losing jobs if they haven't already. Unemployment has been enhanced, but that only lasts for 4 months. And how do you afford health insurance on unemployment?

Please explain to me the universe you're living in. To me this reads like a parody or an armchair CEO.

I see a lot of fear and a lot of people that have either lost jobs or lost income. The stimulus checks are something, but they are not enough to help the majority of people that have been displaced.

If you're "essential service job" is working at Walmart, I don't see you magically having enough money all of a sudden easily buy Disneyland tickets for your entire family, no matter how many hours you've had to put in because of all this.

Theme parks are a luxury. While there will undoubtedly be people chomping at the bit to get back in, there are a lot of people that wouldn't have thought twice about going to a theme park two months ago for whom things have changed.

Disney was already perceived as at best expensive and more accurately overpriced before, when times were good. And there are armies of people whose entire job it is to watch Disney's every move and post about it to social media. People will notice, and I don't see any look for Disney other than egg on its face.

You missed the part where Darkbeer mentioned unemployment. The unemployment checks will be $600 additional per week and will last until July, which is well after Stay At Home should end. Some unemployed may get more money they are currently earning for their minimum wage jobs. This doesn't mean these people will go to Disneyland, but it gives them a lifeline and more options. Many people working these hourly jobs are not the primary household earner. This is extra money that they might spend.

I also heard Disneyland might crackdown on people bringing food into the parks. I always bring sandwiches since they charge outrageous prices for food.

So someone is unemployed. Along with tens of millions of other people. They have enhanced unemployment benefits for a short time, but possibly no health insurance and no idea what the job market will be like when things open up again.

And you think a bunch of them are spending money to go to Disney?

Do you think I'll answer this with anything other than NO? This is what I call a misdirect.

If your unemployed, what else you going to go do? I remember when I was laid off, I went to Disneyland a few times since my new job didn't start until the next month. My AP was paid for so why not go?

Stay home and save your money?

I wasn't talking about someone with a job lined up. Totally different decision process.

In the Parks
No
Bob Chapek and his execs need to make up for their salary cuts. Don't be surprised to find some missing features / more broken animatronics when the parks reopen.

Most companies that are furloughing employees are continuing to pay for their health insurance and the 4 months could be extended if necessary.

I know a number of people who were laid off or saw significant reduction in hours from their jobs and with unemployment and the check they are not even close to making what they made when they were employed. All those things are limited and will not be reliable income.

I can't imagine someone on unemployment running off to go to themeparks.

My guess is Disney realizes they will have a massive reduction in guests for the foreseeable future due to both economic issues and social stigmas related to crowding/distancing. This is their way to help recoup the money.
The enhanced unemployment doesn't take effect until next week at the earliest for most, then many will be making more than before they were unemployed, as it will be what they are getting now plus $600 per week.

Looking around Disney World's site, the only price increase I see is $13.25 for the Turkey Leg, even the most expensive quick service burger I can find is about $15, which that one has always been, the normal if $10-$12.

Now even if Disney World does raise their prices, that doesn't meant Disneyland will as well, Disney World has typically been higher priced on the food in an effort to make the Dining Plan seem like a better value. Also, Disneyland will need all of the locals it can get, which means it will have to compete with Knott's. Knott's just announced that all their season passes will be valid for all of 2021, including all addons like All Season dining and this applies to new pass purchases as well as existing passes, so Disneyland raising food prices would be extremely foolish.

Some companies are. I would hesitate to classify it as "most".
If you already have an AP that is paid for when you get laid off, it is entirely possible to go to Disneyland and not spend a penny.
And that's not the situation I was talking about. I was talking about buying tickets to visit. Why wouldn't you visit if it was free?
