Food poisoning

Has anyone recently experienced food poisoning at the Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios?? We just came home from a vacation last night. Everyone in our 12 person group was feeling fine the entire trip, until this past Friday Jan 12, 2018.

At noon we went to the Backlot Express and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. I finished 3/4 of it and my husband finished the rest. It seemed odd that it was room temp at best but more on the cold side. It didn't taste right to me either but I was super hungry and ate it. Within 30 min, I started having stomach pains and figured I ate too much. Within an hour I knew something wasn't right and I headed back to the hotel. I barely made it back before severe vomiting and diarrhea started. Within a few hours my husband was back in the room with the exact same symptoms. We were both down for the count for about 24 hours and had bad dehydration.

We assumed it was stomach virus or even the norovirus, however we both shared drinks with three of our kids within an hour of us getting sick. They shared a room with us but no one else got sick the entire trip. That's when we realized it was most likely food poisoning.

Yup, food poisoning.

I'd send Disney an email to let them know that restaurant was serving food, especially hamburger, that may have not been cooked properly and certainly wasn't stored properly if the beef had a funny taste. They need to inspect the kitchen operations before others get ill.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I've had food poisoning before. It's not fun. :hungover:

Thanks. I emailed them last night

If it hit after 30 mins, I find it almost impossible to think it was food poisoning... It takes longer to hit...

Correct. On average it takes around 6 hours for you to feel the effects of food poisoning. Two hours is about as quick as it gets. A parasitic food borne infection can actually take days before symptoms show up.

If it were just the vomiting it could definitely have been the food. Sometimes food hits your stomach and your stomach shoots it right back. I'm like that with whiskey, lol. But with the diarrhea I would agree with these sentiments.

That is not true at all. There are more then 1 types of food poisoning as Forensicmom has posted. That is a false fact that restaurants like to put out to try to get out of any liability.
MMMM let me see... Did I ask a person from a restaurant this??? No.... Have I asked a Dr in the past??? Yes.... Sorry

Obviously a doctor can be wrong. They don't know every single disease out there. There are more then 250 different types. It is possible to get food poisoning symptoms before a 6 hour timeline. It is not impossible for this to have been food poisoning and more likely very probable. I've had food poisoning that has hit me under an hour.

Yes, a doctor can be wrong but there are still probabilities at play. Self diagnosis is also a very, very unreliable tool.

That is true but with the way the OP described it, there is more chance then not that it was a type of food poisoning. I feel horrible for them. It is not fun to have food poisoning and if you have ever had it then you know there is a big difference between that and any kind of viral illness. It manifests itself differently and feels different. Food poisoning hits you like a brick and once it is out of your system you are back to normal. Most people only need to get food poisoning once to be able to know if that is what they have again. Plus with more then one person having the same exact symptoms at the exact time, yep it was food poisoning. No doubt.

Lots of things have similar symptoms, even under the general category of food poisoning. Probability still tends toward an incubation period.

Acknowledging that most forms of food poising have an incubation period has nothing to do with doubting the unpleasantness of the experience or denying that something happened. You’re not going to help identify the source of the problem if you self diagnosis and only suspect the last establishment.

There is also the possibility that the source of the contamination is the person themselves.

Touch a contaminated surface and east something without washing your hands enough and BAM!!!, enjoy your time on the porcelain throne.

No it doesn't always wait 6 hours or so. I've had a confirmed case of it immediately after eating, by immediately, I mean within the first hour past it. I have also heard of others who have had immediate reactions. I was told it depends on how bad the food was spoiled as to how quick you react to it. Just wanted to add that in my experience, a longer wait for food poisoning did not happen. It seems there are two situations, most are later on, and the other smaller group have immediate reactions. This is not scientific, but from real life experiences.

No food poisoning, thank goodness, but I have eaten at Backlot and received a very, very stale bun for my chili cheese dog. I was really craving a chili cheese dog because it isn't something I normally eat, so imagine my disappointment! LOL All in our group thought the food was kind of "eh," so we won't eat there again, especially after your story. Sorry you got sick on vacation!

I am guessing you missed the "on average" part.

All you have to do is watch any "judge" show on daytime tv and you will quickly learn that food poisoning is almost impossible to prove in court. But I'm sorry this happened to you.
