Food Drunk

Please don't misinterpret this post...it's not meant to be negative in any way.

Why do you think we are so obsessive about our food choices on a WDW vacation? I can't think of any other vacation destination where anyone agonizes so much about what they will be eating on their trip. It's become a hobby of mine to read menus, make lists of restaurants I want to try, only to change the list again & again, and then read & reread the dining threads on this site. I get so excited when folks post pics of their food!

If this was a food based vacation experience, then I could understand it. But this is a theme park/ride/attraction/show based vacation experience, so why are we so centered on food?

I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just something I found myself wondering about. The only conclusion I could come up with is that there is such a huge amount of variety to choose from. For myself, maybe I'm like that proverbial kid in a candy shop with too many choices to make and I want a little of everything.

Anyone have any thoughts on this subject? Just curious...:)

I do the same thing. I think it starts when you realize you have to decide what you want for dinner at least 180 days in advance.

I live in a small town in Kentucky that offers very little in the way of "fine dining"....we don't even have an Olive Garden...if you want Italian, it's Fazoli's...that's how bad it is! For heaven's sake, our town just voted to go "wet" a few months ago...for those of you don't understand what that means...we still had prohibition! No alcohol sales!

My husband and I both enjoy good food and are not fans of chain restaurants...we used to laugh at the people from our town that went to Red Lobster while vacationing in Florida?? What the heck?? Anyway, WDW is a wonderful opportunity for us to enjoy a higher caliber restaurant then we have available on a day-to-day basis and it gives us an opportunity to introduce our children to a wide variety of cuisines and dining experiences.

Wherever we travel, we search out the food spots that locals like (and yes, I understand that in Orlando the locals probably don't choose WDW most of the time!) and avoid 'tourist traps' like the plague. So, I am used to researching restaurant options, looking at menus and obsessing about where we are going to eat on EVERY vacation. WDW just takes it up a notch with all the options available within such a relatively small area.

I LOVE it, LOVE it LOVE It and enjoy planning our meals as much, if not more, than I enjoy planning our park days!! In a mere 20 days I will begin my food extravaganza and attempt to check off every item on my Easy Note...all 42 of them! :D

you sound like us. we live in a small town with few options, no alcohol on sunday's and we have a hardee's not even a fazoli's lol. if we want something like that we have to go to gainesville 20 miles away. our vacation rule is no chain restaurants we call it eating outside the box. nothing you can get at home.

I love the aspect of sitting down for a meal, likely in a well themed restaurant and discussing the days events and memories... not necessarily the food itself.
