Flying to Disney

Take Jet Blue

Take Jet Blue and watch TV and before you know it, you'll be there. I drove down a couple of years ago and fell asleep at the wheel. My husband had driven for about 15 hours straight so I told him to let me drive (BAD IDEA). Anyway, we haven't driven since and flying is so much better!!!!:sohappy:

Enjoy your vacation... beginning at hour 1!

Certain result of that would be you arrive tired!

Many airports have small establishments offering various elixirs in beverage form. Sampled judiciously, these will relax you and put you in a positive frame of mind.

I have to agree with cms posts.....I wouldnt deviate from my regular schedule too much. Sounds like you have major issues about flying and nothing will help that much(in my opinion) till you touch down in Orlando so I would be as well rested as you can be before you get on the plane and just grin and bear it. Once you get there it will be much more enjoyable if you arent stressed AND exhausted from trying to make yourself sleep on the plane. Have a wonderful time and remember.....YOUR ON VACATION!!!!!!!

Hey JENEVRA!!!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!!

I really dislike flying but am forced to do it for work. Also, when vacation time rolls around, I don;t have two extra days for traveling each way by car, so flying is the only answer!

If JETBLUE is in your area, fly them for the free TV at each seat! A 2 hour flight is only 4 half-hour shows and you will find yourself in Orlando about the same time you would be heading to the kitchen for a snack at home!!!

Also, bring bottled water and some snacks with you. The plane food won;tcut it, and the anticipation of waiting for the stewardesses to arrive will only contribute to your anxiety.

I also found some travel editions of favorite home games like Scrabble, UNO, Yahtzee, etc, that will really help you pass the time well!

Incidentally, (and I am not a Doctor!) I believe my feeling about flying stems more from the fact that I have so little control over anything once you are in the sky, compared to when I am working or at home. Once I realized that was what made me nervous, I was able to look beyond that and let God and the Pilot be in control for a couple hours! That helped A LOT!

You'll be fine. 2 hours will "fly by" and, before you know it, you'll be having a FANTASTIC time at WDWwondering what allthe fuss was about!!!

HAVE FUN! :sohappy:

I hope your arms don't get tired! Seriously, I am not a big fan of flying but after driving back (24 hours) with my husband and mother I will suck it up and fly from now on! Just think of all the great things that you will be doing once you land!! Have fun!:)

My sister is scared to death of flying. Her doctor prescribed
Zanex which does help her. I helps me as well - it keeps her
from digging her fingernails into my arm.

Flying is fun, just think of it as another thrill ride!!!

I enjoy flying. It is pretty much my life. I fly down to WDW about once a month all the way out here in California. I enjoy flying myself to WDW because it's cheaper than the airlines and you can leave whenever you want without the 3 hour wait at the airport.

I live on the Jersey Shore, am 20 yo, have been to Disney 12 times, and am terrified of flying. We drove 11 trips and flew 2 years ago, my senior yr of high school. It was a nightmare, I hated it, will never do it again, torturous for me. Our flight left Newark at 11pm, and for the duration of the flight I refused to sleep b/c I always wanted to "be aware." It was such a long and uncomfortable flight.

Besides, I95 South is a very pretty rode with lots of excitement, haha, ie Maryland House, Chesepeake Tunnel, South of the Border, DC, and the first Florida Welcoming Hut

Dont you mean God and a computer system? Since less than 1:4 landings are done by the pilot. ( Well acording to figures I saw).

Beleive it or not that I did find reasuring:D

Yes, quite a bit. Jet A fuel is about the price of avgas (car gas), but it's the annual on the plane that kills you. I'm planning on going to college to learn to be an airline pilot and A&P mechanic.

If Disney was smart, they'ld start their OWN airlines.

Just imagine...you could start your Magical Disney Vacation from your own Major Airport...Disney would make alot of money, and you wouldn't have time to worry about being afraid to fly because you'ld be having so much FUN. It wouldn't be just a flight, it would be like a Disney RIDE complete with your favorite Characters...kinda like a meet and greet at 30,00 FEET.

Seriously though...To anyone that's afraid of flying...

...while it IS frightening to some, it is still the safest way to travel and the pilots are highly trained individuals that are prepared to handle any and all situations.

Bring a magazine to read, then relax and think about your upcoming vacation and say to yourself..if I were driving, I would still have 22 more hours to go. :animwink:

I count the time off in 15 minute blocks - and flying from Ireland via London to Orlando, that is a LOT of 15minutes - but it breaks it down into achievable sections for me!

I'm flying on 5/17 too. I wish I was going to WDW but I am visiting my brother and his family on Prince Edward Island.

I HATE flying but is is a necessarily evil. I hate the drops, etc but you arrrive in a short time and have 2 extra days of vacation.

Take a Xanax and smile. Seriously, it really is the safest way to travel.

What kind of aircraft do you fly? Also, do you rent or own the aircraft? I've been a licensed pilot for over five years myself, but I'm still renting small aircraft such as the Cessna 152, 172 and 172RG. They're fine for local flights, but the cost of rental for anything long distance is a nightmare. Thankfully it's just about a six hour drive from Atlanta to Orlando by car for me.

As for those of you scared/nervous of flying, just remember that those airline pilots are some of the most skilled people you will ever meet. Those pilots have each logged thousands of hours and have experience (actual and/or simulated) flying through every kind of weather and emergency problem that could happen. As long as you can tolerate the clowns on the roads and the mindless people pretending to be security in the airports, then the worst is already behind you.

As Captain Rex would say, "Just sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight!"

I have an absolute phobia when it comes to flying. But you CAN help yourself get more comfortable if you want to.

#1 Check out this website: http://www.fearofflyinghelp.com/ and put aside an hour of your time to go through his online fear of flying help course--it's absolutely FREE! You can also print out several "help" sectons to take with you on the plane. The site is wonderful.

#2 Look on eBay at their fear of flying books. You will find one that sounds like it will help you. Order it and study it. I have two books that I study before I fly.

#3 See if you can get a RX for Xanax. Some doctors don't like to give it because it's a controlled substance...but see if you can get the doctor just to give you 4-5 pills. This stuff WORKS. I take it daily due to anxiety/panic disorder. But when you first start taking it, the stuff knocks you OUT. You could even try a half a pill or so before you leave just to see how it affects you so you will know if you need more or less. Take it about an hour and a half before the flight is supposed to leave. Then you can take more when you are up in the air if it's needed. Usually half a pill is enough to get someone through a flight.

I'm with you, girl! I'm leaving in 36 days and even though I've done what I can to get over this fear it still crops up now and then.

Good luck!
Christina
