Flying into Orlando/Sanford

Has anybody ever flown into the Sanford airport? I was looking and we can fly the 3 of us on Allegiant into Sanford for about $750 or fly into MCO for about $1600. I know Allegiant only flys on Mon, Wed, and Fri which means we would have to extend the trip by 1 day (oh Darn). So the questions I would have are what are the transportation options from Sanford to WDW? Are there transport shuttles? And how much is a cab ride?

You can also look at car services if you don't want to rent a car. That will cost you about $150 (estimate) + tip. I hope that includes the baggage fees too. The reason I ask is that I got $19 each way tickets. After all of the fees, it came up to $225 round trip. Southwest was only $169 RT.

We flew Allegiant into Sanford a couple of years ago and rented a car. They currently offer a shuttle as part of their add-ons that I believe was $75/per person each way. It is not that much farther from MCO, but I agree with the poster above who says to watch the fees that they add on, including carry on bag fees. When it was all said and done, although we saved money the year we used them, it was easier for us the last two years to fly into MCO and take DME to the resort. If you are staying off property, it might very well be worth your while.

We are coming in from Michigan (GRR). We use to be able to fly AirTran but since South West took over it seems the prices have just went up and up.

When? Sample GRR-MCO RT fares in October range from $298-$800+. Mid-week are cheapest. Keep in mind that SW allows 2 bags per person for free. All airlines cut back on the number of flights which caused the big price jumps. Captain Hook- I flew to London a few years ago for a third of what it cost now.

We fly out in 02/2015. I've heard that the bigger airlines drop prices the closer you get to the departure date to fill the last few seats. Not sure if this is why the October prices are so low...

I'm seeing SW flights as low $268 RT GRR-MCO with two free bags. Go to the SW site and pick dates for your trip and then click on the calendar for the entire month. It will give you the fare each way for every day. I'll be there 2/1-9.

I was looking today and realized the issue. We fly out on 2/20 and return on 3/1. Apparently these are the 2 most expensive days to fly. We will just have to watch the prices and take our chances and book when we think it is low. I do see what you are talking about, if we were to fly Mon through Thurs flights are considerably cheaper.

wow, I scored for my trip. Seattle to MCO (non-stop) for $300 each round trip. Alaska Airlines started flying there and with my Alaska Airlines Visa card I get a companion fare for $99 so round trip for the two of us cost me a little over $500. You'd be amazed at how many airlines offer a credit card with awesome benefits, maybe something to look into.
