fly or drive

I know this has been discussed before but I was just woundering given the choice would you fly or drive to disney. I had ben dead set on flying but have started to give the act of driving strong considerations. ME and my mom will be coming from va so it is like a 15 hour drive but I think the trip is as much fun as actually getting to the parks. Also it will give us a car so we can get out and do stuff without having to worry about a taxi, we are going to universal. leaving the day before our reservation is to start will get us down around the same time as if we had flown and driving two 8 hour days for ex is not that bad. I know people are differnet but how important would it be to your family to have your ow car on the vac.Thank You1

I would think driving would be your best choice.

I drive as it only takes me 5 hours to get to WDW. On a side not, I looked into flying once, it would only save 20 min or so from me driving. When you figure in all the airport junk, I am actually saving time by driving down V. flying.

If I were 5 hours away I think I would be there every weekend!

We drive down from up here in Canada and will be again next March. Most of my friends who go down insist on flying. I, personally, am like you and look at the driving as part of the vacation. We didn't take many trips as kids, so I just LOVE being out on the open road and taking in all the scenery on the way down. Also like you said, it is nice to have your own vehicle down there for going off property if you choose to. I think we may hit up Universal this trip too since we have never been.

We have friends that own a 2nd home in Ocala, so theoritically, I could probably drive down 3-4 times a year compared to the insane amount of money I spend each year flying down and staying on Disney property. As a matter of fact, DH is leaving Monday to spend a week down there doing some excavation work on their orchard and I could have tagged along and probably spent a couple days at the parks (Florida in August - No Way!!)
But my intense dislike of riding/driving long distances overrides my love for all thing Disney, so I'll just stick with my original plan for December and watch Wishes from my balconey at the Contemporary.

Just lovely! It was a trip we had been saving for for ages; a 14 day tour of Greece and a cruise around the Greek islands, plus a stop in Turkey to see Ephesus. We had no problem with the international flights( we used a European carrier), but the US flights were awful.

My wife and I just did a cruise from Athens in May. Saw the Greek Islands and Ephesus. It was like a dream! Glad you had fun!

Ocala to Disney

My mom used to live in Ocala. It's not too close to Orlando. I wouldn't want to have to drive back and forth everyday for a Disney vacation. I'd get a hotel, even a cheap one, to be closer.

We drive from South eastern PA almost every year. It is 16 Hours for us.

We used to do it in 2 days , now we drive straight thru, leaving around 3 AM to get past DC as another writer said. Stops for breakfast, lunch and restrooms/fuel. Arriving in Orlando mid evening. The only bad experience was an Easter weekend trip, lots of traffic and construction made it 19 hours.
