Florida resident AP question...

I'm purchasing a Florida resident AP for my nephew. He lives in Florida, but he's 12, so he doesn't have a photo ID. His school ID has his photo and the name of his school on it, but not the address. He doesn't have the same last name as I do.

My question is this...when I take him to go activate the pass, are they going to give my a hard time at the turnstiles? How can I "prove" he's a Florida resident?

I asked this question twice to Disney, and in typical Disney fashion these days, received two separate answers. One cast member (at an Epcot ticket window) said it would be no problem, they may ask to see my ID, but not his. Another cast member (at MK guest relations) told me something completely different. He said that he absolutely needed to prove he lived in Florida and suggested I ask his parents for one of their bills to show. I will not ask his parents for a copy of their utility bill as that's none of my business (and it's a strange thing to ask for...) so that option is kind of out.

I'm not trying to pull a fast one on anyone, the kid legitimately lives here. His parents work a lot, and I end up watching him often when school isn't in session, and I want to take him to the parks.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing and know what their policy is? It's most frustrating that I got two different answers from two different cast members- nothing worse than having employees not being all on the same page.

Certainly nothing more frustrating that getting a different answer to the same question. I'm inclined to give the CM's you talked to a little benefit of the doubt and wonder if they understood the question. I don't know if this is a possibility, but I'd take the child with me and go to the My Magic+ Service Center by the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs. My experience is that the place is staffed with CM's that know the deal. You are face to face and not talking through a slot in a window. Since what you are doing is 100% legit (and you are a great uncle too!) they may be your best bet for a smooth interaction. I'm guessing you already have an AP and a MDX account and will be adding your nephew to your F&F list and manage his tickets/Magic Bands. Good luck!

I will tell you from 1st hand experience with my kids all under the age of 10. We did not need to show proof (ID) for them.

My mother just purchased annual passes for my 2 nieces and nephew (17, 15, 12) and only my 17 year old niece needed to show her FL DL, the other 2 did not when she went with them after Christmas to pick up the annual passes.

When you read the official verbiage regarding proof of residency for any of the FL resident media, (tickets, AP's, etc) it states only adults need to provide identification.

Children do not require proof based on this information. I will also toss personal experience in there, never should they even question it.

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad I was able to get an answer! I'll let you know next week how it goes when we go to the park!
