DL may have little room to expand, but when half of Tomorrowland is closed, that certainly hurts guest capacity. People didn't think there was much room for expansion 10 years ago, but they fit in the massive Indiana Jones Adventure by moving some things around and snaking the queue all the way outside of the park. Despite Disneyland's lack of much land for expansion, WDI seems to be able to use what little space they have quite well. DCA certainly seems larger than 55 acres.

Regardless, I, too, would like to see our Fantasyland given the 1983-style update that Disneyland's received...and perhaps they could make a new villains land somehow extend from the Haunted Mansion around behind Fantasyland, giving the Haunted Mansion a more appropriate land (I've never thought it belonged in Liberty Square)...not sure how the land works here, but it'd be kewl to see a darker land expanding on the Haunted Mansion's atmosphere.

I think that HM belongs in Liberty Square. Liberty Square is supposed to resemble America when it was first cononized and declaration first signed. The HM is supposed to resemble a spooky haunted house looming over the hudson river. Sort of like Sleepy Hollow. It tecnically belongs there. Plus, the ghosts technically aren't villains. They're scary, but not evil.

Fantasyland DEFINATELY needs some updates. They need to rehab it so that it looks less like a renasance festival, And more like unreal fantasey castle-like German, and Swiss architecture. They should also rehab the rides also. Move the small world enterance to the sub lagoon and move Ariel's Grotto to the Arial show at MGM. The new enterance for IASW could have a big facade like the other ones do and the loading area would be by the facade and the it would float to the current ride building. The old loading area for IASW would serve as a ride building for a Pinoccio Ride.
That would make Fantaseyland alot better.

Indy was DL's last big hurrah for building large show buildings on that scale. The Indy building is plainly visible from Downtown Disney, only painted to look like a jungle to be less obvious. Most people don't know what it is. But to build it they had to re-route the Jungle Cruise, tunnel under the train tracks, and build on the old Eeyore parking lot. That's it, no more room for buildings of that size without major demolition of existing structures. The reason DCA seems larger than 55 acres is because there is not much in there, especially few rides that require a show building (six?). Sun Wheel, Orange Stinger, Golden Zephyr, Maliboomer...not much room taken up there.

Also, there is no room behind Haunted Mansion to build anything. The only direction for Fantasyland to go is north from the sub lagoon. Putting the load area for Small World in the lagoon is physically out of the question.

I do favor a make over to the DL style Fantasyland, though.

I might be in the minority here but I think that Fantasyland is great just the way it is. I think the medevial festival is a lot more sucessful here than the Bavarian forest would be. It works at DL and DLP where they have Sleeping Beauty Castle (a story of more Bavarian background and feel) but Cinderella is unmistakable French, as is the Castle. I just feel that Bavarian villiage atmosphere would be completly out of place in the land. MK's Fantasyland should still keep their elegant French feel combined with the Fantasy fair flair.

Isn't the Haunted Mansion set in an 1800s mansion on the Hudson River, versus the 1776 theme of Liberty Square? It just doesn't look very 18th century to me--more 19th century.

You are in the minority and i am too. I think fantasy land is fine the way it is. The only thing i dont like is the abandoned skyway building that is there.

In do think though that they need to expand somewhere in the park. Behing BTMRR would be a great spot to expand. I dont recall anything being back there. Well thats my two sense. :D

OK, I try not to do this in anything but my sig, but take a look at this column that I wrote. About halfway down, you'll see how the Haunted Mansion fits into Liberty Square.

Sorry I should have quoted but.....

The MYST Island rumor has been around for a long time and has always been associated with the now abandoned Discovery Island. When we asked about this this past week, one of the boat skippers from Ft. Wilderness to MK, they said it was still being talked about but who knows. River Country is still all there there hasn't been any demolition that we could see. (Just thought I'd throw that in as well.) They said they weren't sure what was happening with that. However, no work has been done there since it's closing. For what it's worth. That was what we were told by CM's this past week.

Mysterious Island on Discovery Island?

Ummmmm.....don't think so.

The only place seriously looked at for MI to go is north of the 20k lagoon, and that is only blue-sky right now.

Putting anything near that size on Discovery Island would require millions and millions in infrastructure to be built, not only on the island, but to make the area useable to a large number of guests. (Lots of power, water, transport, etc.)
Not gonna happen.

MYST Island was supposed to be based on a game. I am not familiar with it. That was the talk for a long time and apparantly there is still some talk about it. The structures from when the island was Discovery Island still exist there. The lines for the entrance are still there. The shacks for tickets etc are still there. The fences are even still up around the island where the enclosures and paths were. It looks overrun with weeds etc, but the entry way and docks look kept up to a certain extent.
