Is it better to book your flight through disney or do you guys usually book yourselves? I have a travel agent but I wanted to see what would be cheaper. We don't leave till september so I have a few weeks before I can book on some airlines.

We live about 12 hours away (closer to 14 with the bathroom breaks and food stops) and we have driven our last 3 times, but now that mine are older will be 5 and 8 when we travel Sept/Oct I am so looking toward flying! I recently had friends that flew out of Jackson, MS and the flights were $186 per person. Thats roughly $800 for my family to fly. Once you factor in food, gas, lodging (because we break the drive into 2 days)and wear on me and my husband, it comes out to be slightly cheaper to drive but definitely worth it to fly!!! Fingers crossed I can find good rates! Good luck on your decision :)

Well I have a 3 year old and this is the reason I am considering driving. She will be four then and if we leave around 4 or 5 she will sleep most of the way. I just can't justify a 300 plane ticket for a 4 year old to myself. I think I am leaning towards driving. I like that I will be saving about $500!!

believe me, i get it, I am having my bachelor party there in a few weeks, and one of my friends decided that he and his wife were going to drive out there 5 days earlier and make a vacation out of it then drive home after the wedding. Flights from Houston are about $450, so he is saving at least $600 that he can then donate to the mouse. He was worried i would be upset the he wasn't flying out there with the rest of us and i told him he would be crazy not to drive.

I don't know about other airlines, but I know Southwest flies nonstop from New Orleans to Orlando...i.e. no doubling back to Houston.

Now, we drive from Houston so I wouldn't have any problem making the drive from New Orleans + it would save a ton of $.

September dates aren't out yet. I'm still gonna keep my eyes open for those flights too.

Houston flights are crazy, my fiance who is in Dallas for work for a few months can fly united to orlando (with a connection in Houston) for $286, while if I want to fly just the same leg from Houston to Orlando its $456 for me!!

I know your pain. That's the exact reason we've driven from Houston to Orlando the last few trips. My parents have the same pricing issues trying to fly to visit from Ft. Lauderdale. I just don't get it. They said something last year about Houston/IAH being the most expensive of the large airports, but it's just getting crazy. Of course, I think there are certain destinations where they are just jacking up the prices...FL spots being one of them. Which is funny b/c it used to be the total opposite. Case in point, I am flying from Houston to Syracuse, NY in a few months and the r/t air is about $120 cheaper than air from Houston to Orlando r/t. Just a few years ago- it would have been the polar opposite.

I know at one time I worried my car wouldn't make the trip. Besides driving with a little one can stress you a little if you are also worried about your car. If this helps at all I book all of our flights one way each. I find a good deal for one way & I book it. I got our trip (in April 2013) from home, over a 1000 miles from DW, for $126 on SW and our return flight, which I found months later, on United for $84.60 each. Only one layover on each flight & neither layover is more than 55 minutes! I just regularly watch the travel sites & always seem to end up with a super shopper total! LOL! Good luck with your decision!

Book the flight on your own. We usually use Kayak.com to figure out when is the best time to purchase and what airline. If you purchase tickets on your own that portion of your trip is still covered by the trip insurance that Disney uses if you purchase it.

I would fly and book my own flights very soon. The closer it gets the prices get higher. Flying you are well rested when you get there. Its worth the money not to have the wear on your car. Flying also gives you more time at Disney!
