Flight to the Moon opened in December 1971; although was based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name that ran form 1955 to 1975 (Florida`s was slightly less dated when it opened)
Mission to Mars launched opened July 1975 - the moon was too close a neighbour! Based in the same theatres, this was a light rehab (only 6 weeks long) with new films and soundtrack but the theme was the same; preshow with Animatronics in Mission control. Proceed to one of 2 identical round theatres and travel to another planet / moon (rear projection screens in the floor, ceiling and wall gave the illusion of motion, along with bass heavy sound fx (some very 70`s ) and seats whose bases inflated and deflated to simulate g force.
State of the art in the 70`s, lacking in the 80`s, and once you`d ridden Star Tours it was farcicle. It closed in December 1993 to make way for the first Alien Encounter. To this day, whatever version of SGE they now have open still uses the same crowd layout and theatres. More info here.
